1951 Bill Bush* was among the USF basketball players to make an historic Alcatraz visit with his former teammates.

1954 Historians Jack Tillmany* and John Freeman '59* were featured as local legends in a book by Lorri Ungaretti. Tillmany is the former owner of the Gateway Cinema and author of books on the Bay Area's grand movie palaces, and Freeman is an expert on the Richmond District.

1955 Jerry Brown* was re-elected to an historic fourth term as California governor in a landslide victory.

1959 John U. Fry received a Doctor of Management degree from George Fox University in Portland, Ore., on Dec. 13. His field of study is enterprise project management with additional studies in change management and innovation. John pursued this degree while working full-time, serving as executive project manager for CDM/Crocker-Fry, Inc. in Watsonville. The firm specializes in commercial development and design with a recent emphasis in natural food grocery stores.

1964 Paul Baffico, founder of the Lake County Veterans and Family Services Foundation, has a new book out, Last Mission for a Reluctant Patriot, available on Amazon for the Kindle.

1968 The Chronicle praised Bridge, the new novel by celebrated poet Robert Thomas*.

1969 Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts* was named to the CIF All-Century Team. Fouts, who holds numerous records during his time with the San Diego Chargers, is one of 100 Californians celebrated for the 100th anniversary of the California Interscholastic Federation. / Last issue's Keeping in Touch column included a photo of the daughter and great-grandson of Bob Fairbanks '47. In his enthusiasm for the newest descendent, he neglected to mention that baby Joshua is the grandson of Phil McManus and the great-nephew of Jim '72, Tom '74 and Paul '77, all of whom request their props.

1970 Frank Dunnigan* wrote about delivering Christmas food boxes while at SI in an essay published on Outsidelands.org.

1972 David Urbiztondo celebrated his wife's 60th surprise party as well as their surprise wedding vow renewal in front of friends and family at the Thirsty Bear Brewing Company Aug. 9. Rev. Ray Allender, S.J. '62, performed the ceremony for David and Gail alongside Steve Urbiztondo '71, Michael Guglielmino '72, John Carmazzi '72, Ernest A. Bautista '78, Steven Ramos '84, Martha (Thea) Talens '96, Jason Urbiztondo '98, Andre Truoccolo '17 and Sean Doheny '18.

1973 John Jack* was elected president of the Olympic Club for 2015. He is the fourth member of his class to hold the position. Al Clifford (2005), David Bonelli (2010) and Dennis Murphy (2013) preceded him as Olympic Club presidents. / Jonathan Ow attended his class's annual Christmas lunch at MoMo's on Dec. 19 and reminisces that "on a foggy September morning in 1969, the first freshmen class to enter the new SI campus on 37th Avenue heard some prophetic words from a Jesuit priest by the name of Fr. John Becker, S.J. He told these young men to look around among themselves. The friends they would make over the next four years would most probably become their friends for the rest of their lives. How true were those words! Thanks to our class president, Al Clifford, for remembering all of us and organizing this for the last 41 years. We are SI! / Justice Peter Siggins*, an SI Trustee, received the St. Thomas More Award at the Red Mass. The award is the highest honor bestowed upon Catholics in San Francisco's legal community.

1975 Michael Bowie* told his story on ESPN's Playing for the Mob of being falsely accused of taking part in a notorious point-shaving gambling scam at Boston College. The piece was also selected for the Boston Film Festival. / Fly-fishing aficionado Mike Malekos's adventures appear monthly in California Fly Fisher Magazine. Check out his column in the upcoming issue. / Brian McCaffery* released his CD, Tell Me Why, on Amazon. Brian, who works for the Fish and Wildlife Service and is a Catholic deacon in Bethel, Alaska, sings about domestic violence and related issues, particularly as they impact the rural people of western Alaska.

1976 The Day the World Series Stopped, a new film by Jon Leonoudakis*, tells the story of when the Loma Prieta Earthquake hit during the World Series. The crew for this film also included Karl Mondon '75 (director of photography), Roger Revel '75 (Candlestick groundskeeper), Rob Poquez '99 (editor), David Morse '06 (grip) and Tim Leonoudakis '72, a Giants fan at Game 3. / Jessica Starr and Michael McEvoy (right) were married on New Year's Eve in Scottsdale, Arizona.

1977 SFPD's Matt Castagnola*, before his retirement, led the Giants' World Series Parade with the Mounted Unit and posed with Madison Bumgarner, who sat atop one of the police horses before the parade began. / F.X. Crowley* wrote a blog in which he applied the lessons learned from coaching football to business and beyond.

1980 Rev. Joseph Everson, MM, was elected to a 6-year term as Vicar General of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers at the order's 13th General Chapter.

1981 Capt. Joseph McFadden* was named top cop of the Ingleside Police Station.

1982 Rev. Michael McCarthy* wrote in the New York Times about the 25-year anniversary of the martyrdom of six Jesuits and two co-workers in El Salvador.

1986 Tim Reardon* saw the publication of his second novel, Part of the Game (2014). His first book, Shadow Lessons, was released in 2010. Both are available at Amazon. The Chronicle's Paolo Lucchesi '00 wrote this about the novel: "Some great novels provide a snapshot of a city, but Part of the Game does more than that. It is Tim Reardon's vibrant, heartfelt collage of San Francisco, its layers and its denizens. And perhaps most importantly, Part of the Game is simply a fantastic read."

1987 Alvin Albano was promoted to 4th degree black belt at Hapkido USA, the headquarters for the International Hapkido Federation. He has been training since 1992.

1988 Ricardo Ibarra-Rivera* appeared on Z Nation.

1990 Didrik Johnck*, who has had his photographs of climbers in the Himalayas published in National Geographic, was nearly killed by swarms of ants off Highway 5 in California in early October. Didrik has lately been busy photographing veterans who seek mountain climbing for their postwar therapy. / James Tom, an Associate Professor at USC's Ostrow School of Dentistry in Dental Anesthesiology, welcomed two SI graduates (George Jaber '04 and Ryan Cheung '04) into his Dental Anesthesiology Selective. Jaber went on to pursue a specialization in anesthesiology at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, and Cheung is expected to finish the DDS program in 2016.

1991 Tony Kozuch and Dennis Melka have opened the world's largest integrated cacao and banana plantation on the Amazon River in Peru. The project has created more than 300 jobs in a poverty stricken area. At completion of plantings in 2016, the 3,250-hectare plantation will be two-thirds the size of Manhattan and will provide permanent employment for more than 800 people. Tony and Dennis are listing the company on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol of CHOC. / Larry Thuesen has founded the Coit Law Group of San Francisco — lawyers focused on the needs of individuals and small businesses. He is married and lives and practices law in the City.

1992 Mark Farrell* was re-elected San Francisco Supervisor for his district.

1993 Gretchen E. Henderson* wrote the libretto for an opera performed at MIT.

1995 Marcus Clifford married Jolene Barger Sept. 5 at St. Elizabeth's Church in Guerneville. Best man was brother Dan '92. Among the groomsmen were brother Peter '00, Aaron Molinari and Matt Nejasmich. Proud papa John '68 and his wife, Patty, put on a beautiful outdoor river reception with Cliffords of all ages and many, many friends along to celebrate. Godparents Uncle Al '73 and Aunt Roseanne did the readings and grandmother Mencha Clifford, wife of the late Harry F. Clifford '33, was present. Former SI teacher Dr. Jeanne Marcato Peloso and her husband, Matt, were also in attendance. / Marcus Dusenbury and his wife, Erica, recently adopted two children from the Washington state foster care system. Jasmine Bella is 1½, and her biological half brother, Josiah John, is 2½. They live happily in the Seattle area, but Marcus is trying his best to raise two 49ers fans. / Tobias Koehler married Maggie Sporck in her hometown of Suttons Bay, Mich. They met in the Botany Department at the University of Hawaii and currently live in Honolulu. They are planning a Mt. Kilimanjaro ascent for their honeymoon in 2015.

1997 Adam Jacobs* and Darren Criss '05* both performed on Backstage with Disney on Broadway: Celebrating 20 Years. Criss, of Glee fame, sang a song from Broadway's Aladdin, currently starring Jacobs in the title role. Jacobs also performed on The View to showcase the special.

1998 Time Magazine featured Stanford's Kari Berquist*, a clinical instructor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences and an autism clinician at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. She wrote about how parents can learn to give effective therapy to their children with autism. Researchers at Stanford University looked at a type of therapy called Pivotal Response Training, which is one the of the handful of treatments shown to be effective for kids on the autism spectrum. / Chris Murphy wed Kit Van Dusen Sept. 11 at St. Agnes Church and then repeated the ceremony at Old St. Hilary's Church in Tiburon the following day with a reception at the Corinthian Yacht Club. Brother Brian '94 was best man, and brother Frank '91 assisted along with uncles Pat '67, Dennis '73 and Casey '77.

2000 Josh Harris* and his restaurant Trick Dog were up for Food & Wine's top honor for best bar according to a story in the Chronicle written by Josh's classmate Paolo Lucchesi. / Ryan Kushner* continues climbing to help a friend's 3-year-old son who has leukemia. Ryan raised funds for leukemia research by climbing the Lenin Peak in central Asia, one of the hardest mountains to climb. / Leah (Taylor) Pimentel and her son, Lawrence, were invited by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to share their paid sick days story at the San Francisco Women's Equality Day that highlighted the Middle Class Jumpstart Agenda to empower women in the workforce and to ensure access to comprehensive health care and family planning.

2001 Ella Rollandi plighted her troth with Travis Day at Old St. Mary's Church in Nicasio on Sept. 20; she was given away by proud dad Vic '68 and assisted by sisters Denise '09 and Anne Birdseye '05 as maid and matron of honor. Tory Rollandi '98, whose son, Joseph, stole the show, completed the clutch of loving siblings, who celebrated along with many family and friends.

2002 Lindsay Herling married Matthew Lynch (SHC '96) at St. Ignatius Church July 19. Many SI alumni relatives were in attendance. The couple lives in San Francisco, where Lindsay works at Rocket Fuel, an ad technology company.

2003 Annie Mai married Benjamin Zaks of Benicia on Aug. 31 at the General's Residence in Fort Mason, where Josie Mai '93 was Maid of Honor. The couple met in 2004 during their undergraduate studies at Cal. Since earning his doctorate in physics from UCSB, Ben works as a product engineer for Keysight Technologies while Annie works as a senior account manager for Conversant Media; she is also a certified personal trainer and competitive bodybuilder. They currently reside in Marin. / Carolyn Thamkul and Bryce Harenburg married Sept. 27 surrounded by many SI alumni for a pirate-mermaid-themed wedding aboard the historic ship Balclutha at Fisherman's Wharf followed by a reception at the San Francisco Maritime Museum. Since they met singing a cappella at Cal, they had an a cappella ceremony. Sister Janel Thamkul '98 was mer-matron of honor and Jules Zaks Dizon was in their bridal party as one of their groomspirates. Alumni and former faculty who attended included Janet and Nick Sablinsky '64, Theresa Chapman, Czarina Lee, Melissa Ongpin, Martin Seo, Stephanie Huynh (Ching), Claudia Wong, James Chris Wong, Denise Lum '01, Paulina Barrack (Singhapok) '05, Joe Barrack '04, Christopher Gee '98 and Assistant Principal Bobby Gavin.

2004 On Sept. 6, Victoria Go married Steven Bond at the St. Francis Yacht Club. Other SI grads in attendance were Semuteh Freeman, Yvonne Kelly, Nichole Rousseau-McAllister, Jessica Li '03, Meghan Callinan '98 and Andrew Verducci '03 who served as the awesome DJ. / Courtnee Jordan-Cox just began a doctoral program in organizational leadership at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, D.C. She received her master's degree from Villanova University in 2010 and her bachelor's degree from Marquette University in 2008. She is employed as a substance abuse counselor, specializing in parents who have open charges of child abuse and neglect. / Amanda Lawrence graduated in May with a master's degree in nursing from USF. She recently left her job at UCSF after six years for an oncology nursing position at CPMC. / Karen (Damon) Teal* celebrated the publication of her new book, The Falling (The Forest Spirit) Vol. 1, which is available now on Amazon. Karen's first published novel, with Christian-based themes, is part of a young/new adult fantasy series about an upheaval of an enchanted forest.

2005 Maria Angelica DeGaetano graduated this summer from the University of Oxford with an M.Phil in Latin American Studies. She is continuing with a second master's degree in England pursuing an LL.M in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.

2006 Jennifer Butler* performed in Hillbarn Theatre's production of Funny Girl. / Sports Illustrated named the story on Jill Costello* as one of its top 60 stories of all time. Jill, who fell victim to cancer, was a champion coxswain both at SI and Cal. / Matt Jones recently starred as Cassius Clay in the Los Angles production of One Night in Miami..., written by Kemp Powers. Sullivan Jones (Matt's professional name) will appear in USA Network's upcoming TV pilot Stanistan, and he will be reprising his role of Cassius Clay at both The Denver Center and Baltimore Center Stage in early 2015. / Jamie Rey has achieved an NCC national credential as a Maternal Newborn Nurse. / Gianna Toboni* hosts The Real on VICE TV. The digital series investigates the real stories behind some of the most popular social TV shows and films. New episodes will premiere every two weeks and will include looks at the characters and situations that have inspired Weeds, Eastbound & Down and other shows. In the first episode of the series, Gianna went to Ponchatoula, La., to meet with the real detectives who investigated allegations of child molestation in the town's Hosanna Church.

2007 1st Lt. Kevin Graham of the Army Rangers is currently stationed in Kosovo in Vitna-Letnica. He is deployed with the 2-38 Cav (Battlefield Surveillance).

2008 Alex DeMenno* serves in the National Civilian Community Corps. He began work on the first of four long-term service projects the week of Nov. 9. The group is a residential national service program that supports disaster relief, the environment, infrastructure improvement, energy conservation and urban and rural development. Before joining NCCC, he graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 2012, where he studied psychology. / Adam Greenberg* started a company after inventing a new device to grow food indoors.

2010 Jacqueline Toboni*, star of Grimm, was a guest on Craig Ferguson's show.

2011 Jimmy Callinan* helped Stanford soccer win the Pac 12 championship. He served the team as senior co-captain and has been a 3-year starter at right back at Stanford. / Stanford's two-sport athlete Hannah Farr* was featured in a video on the Stanford website and written about in the San Francisco Examiner for her help lifting Stanford over USC in soccer / Justin Jayme* represented St. Mary's College in the NCAA West Regionals. He ran cross country and track at SI and is now featured on St. Mary's website. / Wired Magazine wrote about Jackson Lindauer* and his entrepreneurship.

2012 Claire Healy is volunteering at the Open Arms Infant Home in Malawi, Africa. She attends Bucknell University and is taking a gap year. / Andrea Wong* had a stellar season competing on the UC Davis golf team.

2013 The Daily Journal celebrated Mary Shepherd* and her success on SCU's volleyball team.

2014 Patrick Dunne is enjoying his freshman year at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. "You get what you put in college," says Patrick. Hence, from day 1 he got involved with The Daily Pennsylvanian newspaper in business analytics, as he enjoys working with large data and statistics. He was honored to lead one of the cohorts of Wharton's freshmen to serve as a liaison between the student body and the administration. He enjoys discussing ideas surrounding stock trades and talking to alumni about their success stories. While he misses NorCal weather, he enjoys the intellectual stimulation and discussions with his classmates. / Quinci Mann* helped her Lehigh's basketball team all season.

2015 The Examiner profiled SI quarterback Ryan Hagfeldt* before the CCS title game. / Johnnae Sanders* (right) performed as Maya Angelou at the Muni Heritage Weekend. Event organizer Nick Figone '01 noted that the event "was a huge success with Johnnae stealing the show performing as Maya Angelou, a former toll taker on San Francisco streetcars. The weekend event had a tremendous turnout among locals and visitors. Some traveled as far as Sweden specifically for this. Johnnae's performance was clear and heartfelt. It was further enhanced with her vintage attire complete with coin changer swinging at her belt." / Julia Tognotti* received the Jefferson Award for her service to migrants at the Kino Border Initiative in Nogales, Mexico. CBS5 aired a story on her work. She was also selected for an ABC Summer of Service Award, which came with $1,000 to go towards the Kino Border Initiative. Later, she interned with the 49ers and Levi Strauss for their Field of Jeans clothing drive to benefit Goodwill Industries and to create jobs in the Bay Area as well as serve those in need. She also received a 49ers Community Quarterback Award along with $1,000 to go to Kino. She was recognized on the field prior to a game and attended a luncheon given in her honor.

2016 Michael Chichioco* will present on Tourette's Syndrome at SHC's TedxYouth Talks on Jan. 17 at SHC. / Gavin Doyle, Lizzie Ford, Joe Cannice '17 and Kelsey Bauer '17* received the InnVision Shelter Network Teen Community Spirit Award. SI has partnered for years with this network, which serves homeless families in the Bay Area, and many students have completed their core project for their community service hours with this group. The keynote speaker was Regis Philbin. The four students were honored for their many volunteer hours as well as leadership, compassion and attention working with children and youth at the agency's shelters. / Adriel Rodriguez* released an EP on iTunes. / Sayaw, the full-length documentary featuring Sabrina Santander*, premiered in October at the New People Cinema. / Maria Zelaya Santillan* spoke at the Mayor's Annual Interfaith breakfast Nov. 25 at the Hotel Kabuki.

2017 For the second year in a row, Mallen Bischoff* (varsity) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's "Phenom List" of volleyball players to watch across the country. Sasha Fuse '18 (JV) also was named to the list this year. Both players have been invited to the AVCA Combine in Oklahoma City in December, where they will participate in a talent showcase in front of 100-plus college coaches.

1946 Norm McHugh and his wife, Genie, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Sept. 10.

1947 Bob Fairbanks and his wife, Pat, recently became great-grandparents for the first time. They're comfortable with their new names, but still cannot cope with their daughter Betsy being a grandmother. Father Tim and his wife, Megan, are both Santa Clara grads, but there is still solid hope that young Joshua will succeed in the future.

1953 Tony Sanchez-Corea* and his wife, Lucille, were honored by St. Patrick's Seminary at their Four Pillars Gala in September in recognition for their service to the Bay Area's Catholic community. / Noted biologist Peter Raven* received the Medal of Excellenece from the U.S. National Arboretum. Now 78 and president emeritus of the Missouri Botanical Garden, he has also been a driving force behind Flora of North America, a monumental effort to document and describe the wild plants of the United States, Canada and Greenland. Sixteen of the 30 volumes have been completed.

1959 Historian John Freeman* spoke with Chronicle reporter Carl Nolte on the origin of San Francisco's street names.

1962 Edward Daneri is the head chaplain of the county hospital in El Paso and dean of the Law Department of a local Hispanic college.

1963 Tom Brandi was named to the 2014 list of Top Ten Lawyers for Northern California for the second consecutive year. Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Tom has been in the Top 100 every year since the inception of Super Lawyers, and this is his third appearance in the Top Ten. / George Magill received a gold medal for a first-place finish in the July 13 Napa Valley Inline Marathon. His firm, Magill Industries, is pleased to announce a licensing agreement with a major plastics manufacturer to manufacture and market the Rodaway Fishing Rod Wall Rack and Carrier. / Richard Mangan writes this about the summer Genesis: "You folks sure ruined a beautiful mid-summer evening in Missoula, Montana. After moving my Black Angus cows to a new pasture and having dinner, I settled back on the patio with a cold brew and the latest issue of Genesis. It didn't take too long before I came across the article about my old classmate Paul Medlin. Paul and I also went through Forestry School together at Humboldt State. After we graduated in 1968, the draft awaited us, and Paul told me all about the program for college grads to enter Officer Candidate School. Paul was sent off to the Infantry School in Georgia, and I went to the Artillery School in Oklahoma. Just two months after getting commissioned as a second lieutenant, a week before Christmas in 1969, I found out that Paul had died in Vietnam. The dark cloud that hung over our Christmas came back last night again after reading the article, but then all of the good memories of SI and Humboldt State with Paul also returned. Thank you for a great tribute to a long-lost friend."

1965 Bill Kovacich is retiring from education after 45 years of service to the Archdiocese of San Francisco, the last 11 as principal of Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Daly City. Bill will continue to work as a volunteer at OLPH in both development and as producer/director of the school plays.

1969 Chronicle columnist Carl Nolte interviewed historian John Martini* on the "not-so-good-old days" of San Francisco. / Ed McGuirk retired after 38 years as a teacher. He taught English in Spain before moving to New York, where he met a fellow teacher, Allison; the two married and lived in Brooklyn with their daughter, Kelly, before moving back to San Francisco. Ed taught at St. Brendan's for one year before teaching archaeology and ancient history in a middle school in Oakley. Their son, Chris, was born in Concord. Upon his retirement, a former student (and an altar boy at his wedding) did a tribute video for him. Search for "Mr. McGuirk and His Story" to see the clip.

1970 Frank Dunnigan* hosted a book-signing event at SI in August for his new tome, Growing Up in San Francisco's Western Neighborhoods: Boomer Memories from Kezar Stadium to Zim's Hamburgers (below). He also wrote an essay, published in Outsidelands.org, about dress codes in Catholic high schools in the 1960s and 1970s in San Francisco. / Michael Kearney has recently retired as an assistant chief in the San Francisco Fire Department after a 37-year career. Other 1970 SI graduates who were also members of the SFFD include Kevin Bouey, Paul Fuhrman, Gary Gautier, Marty Grealish, Mark Groshong, Dick Gutierrez, Joe Hallisy, Steve Hart, Jim Isola, Micky Lavelle, Brian Rabbitt, Bill Rapp and Dave Tracey.

1974 John Stiegeler and daughter Georgina '16 traveled to Brazil to support the USA during the recent World Cup. Upon return, both attended the viewing party outside City Hall and were interviewed live by KCBS.

1975 Six SI grads organized this October's Columbus Day Parade including four from the class of 1975: Columbus Day Celebration President Tony Passanisi, Vice President Frank Billante and Co-Chairs Jim Fanucchi and John Warda. Also on the committee are John Parente '67 and Steve Leveroni '69. Look for more on these men in the winter edition.

1978 Darren Cde Baca* and his son, Brett '10*, have started the OneHitAway Foundation to spread awareness regarding ways to recover from brain injuries, especially concussions, which plagued Brett during his time playing football at Trinity College. They both came to SI in September where they spoke at a conference for parents and students regarding brain health and nutrition. Look for more on both men in the winter edition.

1982 Gino Cerchiai is proud to report that his wife, Shawn Brennan, founded a new company, Plenty Pops, which makes delicious, nutritious, organic fruit and vegetable frozen pops, hand-crafted in small batches with no added sugar, unhealthy sweeteners and no artificial ingredients. 1984 John Bertken, after spending 13 years helping build the reputation and traditions at Stuart Hall High School as teacher, coach and athletic director, has moved back to South Korea with his wife, Jin Hee, to serve as the boys' dean and director of the Boarding and Summer Global Camp at the Korea International School on the beautiful island of Jeju. / Mike Johnstone* appeared in I Almost Got Away With It on the Discovery Channel.

1985 Tony Gnecco* will be inducted this Nov. 8 into the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Hall of Fame for his track and field prowess. In his time at Harvey Mudd College, he was a two-time SoCal Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field champion, competing in the 4x400 relay, and a two-time All-American.

1986 Tim Reardon* (left) will serve as SI's third alumni director starting Nov. 1, stepping into the impressive program built by both Jim Dekker '68 and John Ring, who is stepping down as SI alumni director to return to his law practice after eight years on the job. Look for more on John in the next edition of Genesis.

1993 John Regalia*, head football coach at SI, saw his program featured on CNBC for the use of Riddell's new helmet sensors that measure impact and that can help coaches and trainers provide parents and athletes with information concerning the possibility of concussions.

1995 William Olinger married Jen Salerno Aug. 16 in Sacramento. Groomsmen included Bill's brother, Bobby '97, and classmates John Dasher, Bob Gilham and Jeff Tarantino.

He is involved in his local community and plans to run for a seat on the San Jose City Council (District 6) beginning next year.

2000 Leah Pimentel*, a strong supporter of the Homeless Prenatal Program, started Project Mom and hosted an August Baby Shower to share wisdom, lessons on the art of motherhood and provide 40 expectant mothers with resources that otherwise would have been out of their reach.

2004 David Darling is an infantry company commander who finished his second tour in Afghanistan and is currently residing at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs. Her exhibit opened July 26. / Reed Campbell is currently touring the country playing a principal role on the First Broadway National Tour of Nice Work If You Can Get It. He is playing Cookie, a role for which Michael McGrath won the Tony Award in 2013. He comes to Folsom between March 6 and 8. / Abigail Colyer styled opera singer Patricia Racette for the cover and features of the Metropolitan Opera's Opera News Magazine's September 2014 issue. / Kayla McDow married David Schaefer June 21 at St. Francis Assisi Church at Lake Tahoe. 2014 Carly Bell* was named a lacrosse All-American. She was also pictured in the Chronicle with teammates Linsay Bettinger '14 and Alexandra Robertson '14 at the CPMC San Francisco Debutante Ball. The piece also listed SI's other debutantes, including Caroline Bertain '14, Mackenzie Dowling '14 and Kristina Hillhouse '14. / Reilley May* was named to the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association/Speedo All-American team. He helped St. Ignatius to the Central Coast Section Division II semis last fall in water polo. He also played for Sleepy Hollow Aquatics, competing on the 18-under team that took 18th in the platinum bracket of the championship division during this summer's Junior Olympics. / Liam Mihelich* earned the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 343 by leading a project at the SF Family House, which houses the families of patients treated at the pediatric oncology ward of UCSF. He led his team in repainting three bathrooms and replacing the shower heads with new ones that had extendable hoses. He is now studying at the University of Alabama. / Jordan Phan* and Justin Azar '15* were praised for their volunteer work by The Family House, which featured both boys on their website and in their volunteer spotlight for bringing their unique talents to help children with serious illnesses treated at UCSF's Children's Hospital.

2015 SI students performed at the Fillmore Street Jazz Festival earlier this summer and received a shout-out from the San Francisco Chronicle. Performers included Matt and Chris Jereza '16*, Stephanie Woodford '17* and Samantha Shen '15*. / Julia Tognotti* was featured on ABC7 for her work gathering clothing and toiletries for deportees who are dropped off in Nogales, Mexico, where they are cared for by the Kino Border Initiative, where Rev. Peter Neeley, S.J. '67, ministers to migrant men and women. Julia also received a regional Jefferson Award and was featured on KPIX in September for her generosity and initiative. She says she was inspired to do the work after watching a documentary in her Spanish class (taught by Joe Bommarito) on undocumented children seeking refuge in the U.S.

2018 George Doty* was celebrated by Catholic San Francisco for his work helping four members of an Afghan family who left their country only a week after receiving legal refugee status from the U.S.; they had landed in the U.S. with only the clothes on their backs.

Chow, MD, FACP, was the keynote speaker at the 17th Biennial Conference on Health Care of the Chinese in North America in Los Angeles last October. He addressed the implications of health-care reform for the Chinese American population. The conference is sponsored by the Federation of Chinese American and Chinese Canadian Medical Societies. Dr. Chow is also currently president of the San Francisco Health Commission, with oversight of more than $2 billion worth of health services for the city.

1956 Former seven-term Fairfax Mayor Frank Egger’s Cazadero Winery received another Gold Medal at the 2015 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition for his 2011 Moon Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon.

1958 Dudley Poston, professor of sociology at Texas A&M University, was among the scientists elected last November as Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He was elected for his “distinguished contributions to the field of social demography, particularly for work enhancing the understanding of population growth and change in the U.S. and China.” He and the other new Fellows were formally recognized on Feb. 14 at the AAAS annual meeting in San Jose.

1959 Dan Belluomini* and Jim Brovelli ’60*, both head basketball coaches at USF as well as teammates at SI and USF, were featured on the USF website. / In May, Greg Wood* will be inducted into SF Prep Hall of Fame for his football success while at SI.

1961 Frank Berardi (left) visited SI for the first time since his high school graduation. He writes, “My grandson attends Jesuit High in Sacramento, and he was playing basketball at SI. The ‘new’ campus is so different. I got to wander the halls and in a complete surprise found my class graduation picture. It’s a very nice campus. Proud to be a graduate from SI.”

1963 John J Kirby, D.D.S., returned from a Medical Mission in Kalibo, Philippines, with Mending Faces. He and others provided pro-bono cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries to more than 80 patients, restoring hope and dramatically changing the lives of the children and families in this area.

1965 CCSF’s George Rush* stepped down as head football coach after 38 seasons with 326 wins, 93 losses and 4 ties. His 326 wins are more than any other JC coach in the U.S.

2000 The Chronicle reported on March 12 that the family of the late Peter Antonini* donated 40 wetsuits to firefighters. Peter died in 2002 while jogging on Ocean Beach as he was training to join the SFFD. / The redwoods served as the perfect backdrop for the Sept. 6 wedding of Mary DeFrancis and Andrew Young. The outdoor ceremony was held at St. Colman’s Catholic Church in Cazadero, with the peacock-themed reception following in Monte Rio at the Highland Dell along the Russian River. Mary’s sister, Kristel (DeFrancis) Fleming ’03, was the Matron of Honor. Also in attendance were Danielle Bergez ’00, Stephanie Burbank ’00, Stefani Comerford ’03, Allison Dean ’03 and James Tassone ’00. The couple spent a week basking in the sun during their honeymoon in Maui. Mary has been working since 2005 as a registered nurse in labor and delivery at CPMC, while Andrew is a generator technician for Energy Systems. / Alexis McCurn earned three degrees in sociology: her bachelor’s degree from USF in 2005, and from UC Santa Barbara, her master’s degree in 2009 and a doctoral degree in 2013. 2002 Dan McDonnell was named Head Varsity Coach of SI Boys Crew. Dan takes the reins after coaching the freshman boys for seven successful years, a position he held from 2008 until 2014. Dan rowed for SI and Cal, earning top medals at the Pac-10 and IRA Championships.

2004 Ashley Werner lives in Fresno, where she works to improve conditions in disadvantaged communities as an attorney for Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability. On Jan. 10, Ashley was elected delegate to the California State Democratic Party. During her two-year term for District 31, she will vote on endorsements for resolutions and ballot measures and candidates for statewide, legislative and congressional office. The highlight of Ashley’s month was hearing Governor Jerry Brown ’55 give a powerful speech at the High Speed Rail groundbreaking in Fresno.

2005 Darren Criss* will star in his second Broadway musical, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He also wrote a song for the Glee finale. / Victoria Herrera married Michael Lamson on Aug. 9, 2014, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church. Auxiliary Bishop William Justice, the bride’s childhood pastor, presided over the ceremony. Two of the bride’s best friends, Katherine Jeung ’05 and Courtney Thomas ’05, served as Maid of Honor and Bridesmaid respectively. They went on to dance the night away at the Four Seasons, where several SI classmates were in attendance, including Antonette Bondoc, Claudia Zepeda, Natalia Urbina, Marcel Thompson and Mike Mace.

2006 Sam Nelsen was named Head Freshman Coach of SI Boys Crew. Sam recently moved back from Seattle and is coaching, working as an RN, helping to fix his parents’ houseboat in Sausalito and enjoying the extra sunlight. Sam rowed for SI and Seattle U, coached for two years at Mount Baker Crew while working at the Seattle Veterans Affairs Medical Center, founded a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization to support his college team and was part of SI’s crew that won at Henley in 2006. He is the third member of that crew to coach at SI; Richie Gordon ’07 reprises his role as Assistant Varsity Boys Coach and Derek Johnson ’06 helped coach the freshman boys in 2008. / Gianna Toboni* returns to TV as a correspondent and producer for HBO’s documentary series, VICE.

1942 Ken Ross writes that “the geezers are gone, though not all of us. To my knowledge, less than a dozen are still with us. Lou Brizzolara, John Finnegan, Robert M. Johnson, Bill McDonnell, Al Petzinger, Charlie ‘Swede’ Silvera, Ignatius Watanabe and myself — eight from a class of 179. We celebrated our 73rd reunion luncheon June 3 at our favorite meeting place, The Spinnaker in Sausalito. It was a memorial to our Capo, Rev. John Lo Schiavo, S.J., aka Fr. John, Fr. Lo and, in high school when he was All-City Center in basketball, Johnny Lo. He was class president in our senior year, and, after graduation, he was the glue that held us together. He officiated at the luncheons, updated us on who was still present and who was not. He will always be in our hearts. Farewell John, from those of us who are left. 1989 Al Madrigal*, who is back on The Daily Show, performed at Cobb’s Comedy Club in May. / Kevin P. Rooney was made partner at the law firm of Browne George Ross LLP. He was appointed co-lead class counsel by the U.S. District Court in Florida in a landmark class action involving a fraudulent trade school, achieving the largest known student loan forgiveness settlement in U.S. history, in excess of $140 million. Kevin lives in San Mateo with his wife, Diane, and their children, Braeden and Olivia.

1990 After 17 years in D.C., Jono Smith relocated to Phoenix to serve as director of brand marketing and digital strategy for Make-A-Wish.

2000 Leah Pimentel was featured in the Chronicle on Mother’s Day as an example of a mother who is a community activist. According to the paper, she helped to “enact the Family Workplace Ordinance, one of the most visionary policies in the country for parents and caregivers. It ensures that every employee has a ‘right to request’ a flexible work arrangement when caregiving responsibility arises for a child, family member or parent. As a strong supporter of the Homeless Prenatal Program (HPP), she launched Project Mom, a fundraiser and baby shower to share wisdom and provide mothers living in poverty with the necessary resources that otherwise would have been out of reach.”

2001 Benjamin Bradford* won the regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Hard News. A reporter with WFAE, he has won several awards for his reporting, including the national Edward R. Murrow Award for Hard News last year. / Joe McQuaid recently finished his residency in urologic surgery and will soon begin a fellowship in pediatric surgery this summer. For the past six years of his training at the Massachusetts General Hospital, he has been fortunate enough to operate with fellow Ignatian Dr. John Mullen ’88 (right), a surgical oncologist and director of the general surgery residency at MGH. “It has been a real privilege to train under another SI guy here in Boston,” said Joe. “It almost feels as if we’re back on Sunset Blvd. again. / Jessamé Soriano is now a physician at Kaiser Permanente, Adult Primary Care, in Antioch, Calif.

Wagner, Jr. Secondary School for Arts and Technology in New York City. He notes the following: “As the recipient of the 2005 Spirit Award and having worked at Fordham University, the Jesuit tenets have continued to inspire my path. With the seeds planted through my experience with Magis and AAAS at SI, I am both humbled and honored to continue being a person for and with others in my new role.” / Dr. Monique Gonzalez graduated from Alliant International University, California School of Professional Psychology, on May 30, with a doctorate in clinical psychology. She had completed her clinical child psychology pre-doctoral internship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Her dissertation highlighted the stories of Latino school-aged children who have experienced a separation from a caregiver through immigration-related deportation. 1971 Edward “Tony” Gilmore moved to Erie, Penn., six years ago after 36 years of military service. Tony and his wife serve as facilitators at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, helping to mold future Osteopathic Medicine doctors. His wife also teaches a water fitness course at the local YMCA. / Thomas “Matt” Jeffrey is now living in Modesto and is working on some articles for publication.

1980 Historians John Garvey and John Martini ’69 posed outside the historical WWII-era Battery Townsley in the Marin Headlands after the latter had just finished giving a group of military historians from the California Military Heritage Command, California State Military Reserve, a tour of the casemated battery. John Martini also reports that the other dozen Volunteers In Park “who are working to restore and interpret Battery Townsley voted me ‘lead’ because I’m a retried Park Service ranger, and they all figured I could sling the government jargon needed to get funding.” The battery is open from noon to 4 p.m. on every first Sunday of the month.

1982 Former SI trustee Rev. Michael “Mick” McCarthy, S.J.,* was appointed vice president for mission integration and planning at Fordham University.

1985 Eddy Gutierrez was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate in May of 2014 and is currently serving the community at St. Ignatius Parish in San Francisco. In addition to his ministerial commitments, Eddy is a vice president, senior financial advisor, with Merrill Lynch. Eddy just celebrated his 22nd wedding anniversary and is the proud father of four children. / San Francisco Magazine credits Pat Maguire* and Java Beach with revitalizing the Outer Sunset.

1987 Vic Artiga officially retired from the Redwood City Police Department and the U.S. Army. He graduated magna cum laude from Henley-Putnam University with a master’s degree in Terrorism and Counterterrorism Studies. He has since been working as a security consultant specializing in counter terrorism and workplace violence prevention. He is currently studying music at the Berklee College of Music and recently received Berklee’s Celebrity Scholarship. He performs regularly throughout the Bay Area with his jazz and soul duo, VIP. 2000 Matt Bradford* has a second CD out titled Broken Hymns. / Viviana Montoya Hernandez-Torres* was celebrated as Alumna of the Year by Aim High Nov. 12. / Igor Olshansky* was an answer to a Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle that asked who was the only Soviet-born person to play in the NFL. / Leah Pimentel was appointed by Mayor Ed Lee and confirmed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to serve on the Commission on Community Investment and Infrastructure, the successor to the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency. She was also highlighted in the blog mamasguide.co as a third-generation resident of the Bayview District, the vice chair of the city’s Democratic County Central Committee and the mother of Lawrence, 4.

2001 Maria Mahoney married Myles Cardiff Sept. 12 at the Palace of Fine Arts. She won her first jury trial while a law student intern with the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. She also delivered the eulogy for her grandfather, Neil V. Moran ’47, at his funeral Mass in early 2015.

2006 Shane Fallon* and her father, Howard, were featured on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN for their journey of healing following the death of Shane’s sister, Kendra ’06, who died in a plane crash in Nepal shortly after the death of her own mother. / Jason Tengco* was honored as a leading Filipino-American for his work with the White House.

2009 Adrianna Creese* and her tennis team out of Golden Gate Park won the USTA 4.0 National Championship in October. / Ryan Mak, S.J.*, a Jesuit scholastic, was part of a video welcome to Pope Francis that aired before the papal visit to the U.S. / Laura West married Michael Fischer at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 19, 2015. Laura’s sister Sydney West was the Maid of Honor and SI classmates Jenny Arimoto and Meagan Martin  were in attendance. Laura and her husband have since moved to the United Kingdom where she is pursuing a Master of Science in Environmental Change and Management at the University of Oxford.

1933 Walt McCarthy, basketball star of the 1930s, celebrated his 100th birthday with his family, several of whom are SI graduates.

1944 Judge Claude Perasso, Joe McFadden ’81 and Fr. Brendan McBride were honored by the Irish Israeli Italian Society at its annual lunch in March.

1948 Al Romero and his wife, Linda, celebrated the graduation of their granddaughter Chelsea Schifferle from the US Naval Academy in June 2015.

1949 The late Ed McGovern* and his wife, Maggie, were made honorary grand marshals at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in San Francisco. The McGovern family honored their late parents and grandparents remembering their love for life, each other and their Irish Heritage. 1953 In an opinion piece in the San Francisco Chronicle, famed environmentalist Peter Raven* argued for keeping Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant open.

1958 Jim Purcell has retired after 18 years of service at SCU. He helped the university raise $404 million in its last campaign. Even in retirement, though, he’ll still be quite active, serving as a volunteer advancement consultant to Cristo Rey San Jose Jesuit High School, helping the new US West Province find an advancement director, providing consultation to the diocese of San Jose and serving on the board of National Catholic Reporter.

1960 Mike Roberts has retired and is now a busy volunteer for the Henderson Police Department, where he works the front desk, with AARP Driver Safety as an instructor and as an AARP ads marketing specialist for the state of Nevada.

1963 John Kirby, DDS, returned from a week-long trip to Kalibo Philippines with Mending Faces Mission providing pro bono cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries. He took time to visit Memorare Manila, which honors the 100,000 non-combatants who died in the Battle Of Manila in 1945.

1964 Al Saunders* joined the Cleveland Browns’ offensive coaching staff.

1966 The Chronicle praised Peter Devine ’66* for inspiring generations of actors, including Darren Criss ’05. / Rick Giorgetti, VP of Global Upside,  received SCU’s Ignatian Award for his years of servcice. / Joseph Gulino retired from day-to-day education and is the principal of Gulinogroup & Fearless Leadership Consulting. He recently published Principles of Fearless Leadership and is speaking about this topic around the country. He is also a member and secretary of the Missouri State Board of Geologists Registration.

1967 A Jesuit alumni/ae retreat was led at El Retiro by former SI President Rev. Robert Walsh S.J. ’68*, SI religious studies teacher Mike Shaughnessy and former SI Adult Spirituality staff member Mary Abinante.

1971 Mike Lagomarsino is a business representative and president of Teamsters Local 856 in San Bruno, where he proudly represents and advocates for more than 1,000 hotel workers in San Francisco.

1975 Terry McAteer is retiring after 22 years, one of the longest serving county superintendents of schools in the state. For 14 years, he headed Nevada County’s schools, which were the second highest academic performing schools in the California (behind those in Marin). For the past eight years, he led Inyo County’s schools to being the most technologically advanced public schools in the state. Terry and his wife, Liz, will retire to Nevada City to be closer to their two children, Jeanne and Gregory.

1976 The Five Spot featured music director Loren Toolajian*, founder of SandBlast Productions.

1977 Classmates took part in a volunteer event at the Pomeroy Center. “I hope we brought a little joy to the participants and a little relief to the employees who do heroic work day after day,” said Louis Kolenda*. Joining the 20 members of his class was Siofra Curran ’18. The interview appeared on ComicBookResources.com. / After more than a decade leading global public policy communications for Verizon, Ed McFadden (top left) was recently appointed the secretary of communications for the Archdiocese of Washington by Cardinal Donald Wuerl. Ed now directs all communications for the archdiocese, including its two newspapers and a publishing company. He watched the Warriors take on the Wizards at the Verizon Center in DC Feb. 3 along with Sam Samia, Frank Howard ’75 and Larry Mahan ’70.

1986 Bi-Rite Market, owned by Sam Mogannam*, is among the best small businesses in the U.S. according to Forbes Magazine. Working alongside Sam is Tom McGuigan, who serves as general manager of catering and commissary.

1987 Lt. Dean Crispen* received a medal from the SFFD for his “exceptional character” and “unusual ability, personal initiative and courage.” / Steve McFeely* co-wrote the screenplay for Captain America: Civil War.

1988 Larry Krueger* of KNBR was featured by the San Francisco Chronicle. / Hansel Tomaneng recently helped the Super Bowl Host Committee (pictured here) with longtime Bay Area sports marketing guru Pat Gallagher, whom he met as an intern for the Giants in 1995. Hansel screened candidates for the eventual army of 5,000 volunteers. He was also selected to the elite Super Bowl Field Team that transformed 30 SUV-sized carts into a stage for Cold Play, Bruno Mars and Beyonce. He will be on the field and audio team next year at the Super Bowl in Houston. You can find Hansel at AT&T Park at the Giants Dugout, where he is currently one of the keyholders.

1997 Playbill praised Aladdin’s Adam Jacobs* for doing double duty as an actor and father of twin boys. He also appeared on Good Morning America where the cast of The Lion King did a sing-off with the cast of Aladdin. Jacobs had appeared as Simba in The Lion King before his new role.

2001 Ben Matranga is running for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to represent western neighborhoods in the seat formerly held by Sean Elsbernd ’93. He previously managed a social investment portfolio in Africa and Latin America and most recently served as senior advisor to Mayor Lee on street safety. 2004 Dr. Erin Cavanaugh married Terence Carmichael at St. Dominic’s Church in San Francisco on Aug. 15. Erin is a third-year OB-GYN resident at Temple University in Philadelphia. She met her husband, Terry, in Chicago while attending the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago. Terry is the North American manager for Camlin Power, an Irish engineering company. The maid of honor was the bride’s sister Denise Lau ’14. Bridesmaids included Kari Mah and Tiffinie Ma. 1985 Michael Gong* will be traveling to Ghana to help free child slaves. Michael became involved in freeing child slaves when his friend and Hong Kong film star Vincent Lyn asked him to join his rescue team in Africa. The mission seeks to free children along Lake Volta in Ghana, South Africa and other South African regions. Michael writes that his group “tries to go on as many missions as possible to rescue children and bring them to a safe house where they receive medical and psychological care with the hopes of rehabilitation and integration back with their families or new families that will take them in.” / Paul Henderson was voted California’s Lawyer of the Year by the historic California Association of Black Lawyers. The Loren Miller Award is given to the California attorney who has shown outstanding leadership and has made positive influences within the legal profession. Paul was chosen for his ongoing commitment to increasing diversity within the field. He currently serves as Mayor Lee’s deputy chief of staff for public safety and is running for SF Superior Court Judge on the November ballot. In June he appeared in San Francisco Magazine as one of the Bay Area’s top 100 movers and shakers in the LGBT community.

1987 Rich Reardon earned his MBA from the University of Oregon’s Lundquist College of Business and received his degree June 19.

1996 The U.S. State Department’s website featured the work of Michelle Los Banos*, who serves as human resources advisor for diversity and inclusion for the department. / Beth Spotswood is the new Thursday columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle. 2004 In May 2016, Tracy Cosgriff was awarded a doctoral degree by the University of Virginia. An expert of early modern Rome, the papacy and the painter Raphael, she completed her dissertation on the famous Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican Palace, for which she received numerous fellowships, grants and awards. This July, she will join the faculty at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, as a visiting assistant professor of art history. / Capt. David A. Darling left his position as commanding officer at Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, and was transferred to Fort Benning, Ga. He is now a member of the U.S. Army’s Special Forces Unit, the 75th Ranger Regiment. He is the uncle of Marie Paul ’16, who will be attending Arizona State University in the fall. In addition, he is also the uncle of Sarah Paul ’17 and Matthew Paul, a sophomore at Riordan. / After graduating in 2014 from Harvard Law School with honors, Annie Lee (left) completed an Equal Justice Works Fellowship at the National Center for Youth Law. 2010 Timothy Green performed at Carnegie Hall as a member of the Reno Philharmonic Chorus. / Dominique Russo graduated with honors from American University in May of 2015 with her master’s degree in Law and Public Policy. She owns her own private investigations firm and works with criminal defense attorneys. She is studying for her LSAT with the plan to attend law school in 2017. She has traveled extensively and is currently in Colombia using her Spanish. Thanks to her SI classes, she is now so fluent in that she also translates for the courts in Washington, D.C., where she has made her home.

2011 Xavier Russo* (next page, second from right) and Everett Watson* (far right), football teammates at SI, took second in the Wall Street Decathlon, which aired June 23 on the NBC Sports Network. It was their first time competing, and while they placed first in the athletic portion of the competition, they were beaten by a team with higher fundraising (for Sloan Kettering Pediatric Cancer Research) that was a large part of the point total. They are already planning their workout plans and strategy for next year’s Decathlon.

2012 Natalie Calhoun* was named to the All-NESCAC Rowing Team for Connecticut College. / Claire Healy* is traveling to India June 22 to Aug. 5 with SCU’s Business School. A Global Fellow, she and her team will be working with local youth installing solar reading lamps and implementing sustainability projects. This will be her third volunteer position in the developing world while enrolled in college. / Alexa Robinson* (left), a star lacrosse player at SCU, was named Female Athlete of the Year by the university. She is also a 2016 First Team All-American and All-Academic player who helped her team compete in the national championships in North Carolina. 2015 Deedee Anderson, entering her sophomore year at Stanford, is loving her time as an English major and meeting famous authors. She is part of the satirical newspaper at Stanford, The Flipside, and is a member of Stand Up Comedy, Flying Treehouse (teaching creative writing to second graders and then adapting their writing into comedic sketches that her group performs for them), writing and editing for the online news platform The Odyssey, publishing podcasts and serving as the Birthday Fairy of her dorm as a part of dorm government. / Dartmouth’s Rob Emery* earned honors from the All-Ivy League Conference. / Chad Johnstone* was named UAA Baseball Athlete of the Week for his work at NYU. / Jackson New-Smith* was featured in The Santa Clara for his work with the San Francisco Giants.

2017 The San Mateo Daily Journal wrote about Lindsey Fontenot*, who is back at school after a lengthy battle with pancreatitis, and the special prom she had accompanied by 49er safety Eric Reid. / Joe Lerdal* will take part in Boys Nation in Virginia starting July 22.

2018 Cooper Veit* co-authored a story published by the New York Times. / Madeline Wang earned several honors including the Achievement Roll and Honor Roll (American Invitational Mathematics Competition) of American Math Competition-12. She was accepted into Ross Mathematics Program, a 6-week intensive number theory summer camp where approximately 60 students are accepted each year.

2019 Lucas Laughlin* achieved a perfect store on the 2016 National Latin Exam. / Theresa Wu* earned second place at the CLTAC 41st Mandarin Speech Contest on April 23.

1933 Salvadore Ignoffo, a pharmacist licensed in California, was born Dec. 31, 1916, and just turned 100. He celebrated with family and friends on New Year’s Eve. The long-standing owner of the Ace Drug Company, he served patients in the Richmond and Sunset Districts of San Francisco and trained many pharmacy students to become pharmacists. He also mentored pharmacists who worked in community pharmacies.  He continues to be active and only recently retired from pharmacy practice. He is a master bridge player and enjoys going on cruises.

1964 As he begins to wind down his insurance career, John Tastor’s passion is increasing his commitment to affordable housing advocacy. John (below) has joined the Board of the Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County and participated in his fourth Carter Work Project for Habitat for Humanity last August in Memphis, where he worked on the same house with President and Mrs. Carter, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. In March he will return to Vietnam to work on a HFH Global Village project.

1966 Fr. Robert Christian, OP*, was interviewed on Vatican Radio for his ecumenical efforts.

1967 Philip Povey is presently living in Verdi, Nev. He retired from law enforcement after 46 years and is currently manufacturing hand-held firefighting tools and enjoying his 10 grandchildren.

1969 Ron Lagomarsino,* who directed Chester Bailey at ACT, was on hand when his show won Outstanding Premiere and Outstanding Production from the Theater Bay Area Awards. / Stephen Lanctot* received the St. Thomas More Award at the group’s Red Mass. 1970 Local historian and author Frank Dunnigan recently had two new books published by The History Press: Growing Up in San Francisco: Boomer Memories From Playland to Candlestick Park (192 pages/100 photos), which is a sequel to his 2014 volume Growing Up in San Francisco’s Western Neighborhoods: Boomer Memories From Kezar Stadium to Zim’s Hamburgers (also 192 pages/100 photos), plus San Francisco’s St. Cecilia Parish: A History (224 pages/120 photos), celebrating the January 2017 centennial of the well-known Parkside District church and school. All of these books are available at local book retailers, as well as through online vendors. Both BookShop West Portal and the history website Western Neighborhoods Project (www.outsidelands.org) offer copies autographed by the author.

1975 A host of SI grads organized and starred in October’s Italian Heritage Day Parade, from Parade President Frank Billante  and Parade co-chairs Jim Fanucchi and John Warda to Grand Marshall Paul Tonelli ’76 and Queen Isabella Alexandra Cotroneo ’13. / Nick Grbac co-authored a text published by the Society of Broadcast Engineers — Television Operations: A Handbook of Technical Operations for TV Broadcast, On Air, Cable, Mobile and Internet.

1976 Peter Dolan currently serves in his seventh year as trustee for Regis University in Denver. He is past chairman of the endowment and currently serves as chairman of the finance committee and vice chairman of the board of trustees. Peter is a founding partner of Plaza Advisory Group, a wealth management firm in St. Louis. He and his wife, Anne, have two sons. Ryan is a graduate of Regis University and Sean is a graduate of St. Louis University. In 2014, Peter wrote and published the book The Integrated Investor: The Art and Science of Financial Achievement, which aims to share essential ideas learned through years in the industry in a way that interests and informs a broad audience.

1977 Members of the Class of 1977 along with Ed Reidy ’76 did a day of service in Pacifica at a convent and hospice operated by Mother Teresa’s order, the Missionaries of Charity. It was led by Lou Kolenda and John Sullivan and supported by Greg Rocca and other members of the class.

1985 Mike Farrah* served as a field producer for the documentary Class Divide, that premiered on HBO.

1991 Sean Pate married Christy Clark in Tiburon on Sept. 3. The best men were brothers Bryan ’93 and Keith ’95 along with groomsman Albert Thuesen III ’91. Also pictured are their sisters Melissa ’97 and Natalie ’01.

1994 Dr. Lizette Ortega Dolan, middle school director at Park Day School, was invited to attend the final Hispanic Heritage Month Reception, hosted by President Obama and his wife, on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Lizette is honored to be recognized for her efforts as a Latino educator, activist and change-maker. She brought her husband, Matthew James Dolan, and their two children, Lucas (10) and Lilliana (8) along for this monumental achievement.

1995 Gabe Saucedo* is the new head soccer coach at Skyline College; he also serves as a staff coach for the San Francisco Elite Academy.

1996 Adrian Gonzales was hired as new head women’s tennis coach for Mission College in Santa Clara.

1998 Dylan Nicole de Kervor was recognized by the National LGBT Bar Association in their Class of 2016 “Best LGBT Lawyers under 40.” The award recognizes her role in drafting and enforcing the nondiscrimination protections of the civil rights provision of the Affordable Care Act (Section 1557). As the subject matter expert and team lead on sex discrimination, the provisions she was responsible for overseeing have been touted as the “most significant affirmation of the rights of transgender individuals of equal treatment in health care and health insurance that has existed anywhere in the law.” Dylan is currently an attorney with the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., and holds a J.D. and M.S.W. from Cal.

2000 Ryan Kushner* led the only American team to summit an 8,000-meter peak in Pakistan this year. / Michelle Victor,* who works IT at Amazon, wrote in The Oracle about finding healthy solutions for her PTSD, which she experienced after someone held her at gunpoint after stalking her.

2002 Jennifer Lawrence married Hanley Bonynge in September at the Ballard Bay Club in Seattle. The wedding party included the bride’s sisters, Amanda Lawrence ’04 and Brenda Lawrence ’07, and Corey Pallatto Hughan, Dave Lacampagne ’03 and John Ferrel ’03. Tristan Handeland ’03 served as the wedding officiant. 2004 Katie McGovern married Rod Koborsi June 16 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in North Beach (the same church where her parents, Ed ’75 and Tina, were married nearly 33 years ago). It was an intimate ceremony officiated by Msgr. John Talesfore ’78. Two days later, they renewed their vows and exchanged rings at Vine Hill House in Sebastopol surrounded by 160 family and friends. Michael Schimaneck escorted the canine ring bearers Henry and Frank during the processional.

2005 Darren Criss* hosted TV’s live production of Hairspray and was featured in a San Francisco Chronicle story about his show at Feinstein’s at the Nikko Hotel following his LA tour of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He was also interviewed by KTVU’s Mike Mibach ’94 during his San Francisco tour of the show. / Scripps College alumna Kate Fehlhaber* and her team of fellow graduate students and postdoctoral scholars at UCLA won the Society for Neuroscience Next Generation Award 2016 at the organization’s annual meeting in San Diego. The students founded the neuroscience education website, Knowing Neurons, which explains complicated ideas about the brain clearly and accurately using powerful images, infographics and animations. / Colleen McHugh received the 2015–16 Excellence in Public Service Award from the Department of Urban Studies and Planning of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The annual award recognizes a recent graduate of MIT’s Masters in City Planning program for outstanding achievements in the public sector. Colleen earned her master’s degree with a certificate in urban design from MIT in 2013. This award honors her accomplishments as a resilience planner with the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) in post-Katrina New Orleans, where she currently works in the office of the mayor. / Allison Pheatt married Brian Skinner (’04 Valencia High School and ’08 Stanford University) on Aug. 6 at the Christian Brothers’ Mont La Salle Chapel in Napa. 2012 Nicole Saguid Camacho* delivered the commencement address at Loyola University in Chicago. / Katie Harp graduated from Dominican University with a degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. She is working for SI’s Advancement Office while applying to medical school. / John-William McGovern graduated cum laude from Yale in May 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He also played lacrosse for Yale all four years. He now works for Morgan Stanley Investment Banking in the company’s San Francisco office.

2013 Rachael Garrison played volleyball for the University of Puget Sound, where she earned North West Conference honors. She finished the season as the NWC leader in digs with 530. She had four games of 30 or more including a season high of 45 in Oregon on Nov. 4. / Andrew Vollert* was named Big Sky Newcomer of the Year and made AP’s All American football team for his success on the field for Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.

1955 Gov. Jerry Brown* was named Californian of the Year by the New York Times.

1958 Michael Carroll’s grandson, Michael J. Carroll, is a Navy Seal with Seal Team 5. He recently returned from his second deployment in Iraq. Michael is pictured below at the class's St. Patrick's Day luncheon.

1959 John U. Fry was appointed in 2016 for a yearlong term on the Santa Cruz County Civil Grand Jury. He is chair of the Cities and Counties Committee, a member of the Special Districts Committee and a member of the Grand Jury Panel. John’s volunteer work will allow him to be a voice of the citizens of Santa Cruz County to ensure honest and efficient government, to see that public officials are performing their duties legally and responsibly and to oversee the judicious expenditure of tax revenues.

1962 Ray Allender, S.J.,* former SI superior, was featured in National Catholic Reporter and America magazine on the sanctuary movement.

1964 Alan Saunders will be serving his 37th year as a coach in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns as their senior offensive assistant for the 2017 season.

1968 The class of ’68 held its regular Friday the 13th get-together at the Gold Mirror in San Francisco in January. Davis in 1983, a master’s in urban planning from SJSU in 1978, a master’s in history from U.C. Davis in 1976 and a bachelor’s in history from U.C. Davis in 1972. / For a lifetime of leadership in clinical and digital mental health, Dr. Ricardo Muñoz* was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) as part of the Section on Psychology. He was honored for his distinguished contributions towards the prevention of major depression and the development of Internet interventions to improve mental health worldwide. He is a depression prevention and treatment researcher and currently serves as a distinguished professor of clinical psychology at Palo Alto University.

1970 Sean O’Reilly has a new book out: God Has Skin in the Game, published by The House of a Thousand Suns.

1971 Gary Brickley and Erika Brickley ’08 recently ran the 2016 NYC Marathon. This was Erika’s first road marathon and Gary’s seventh. Additionally Gary has completed three 50-mile trail runs, four Quad Dipseas, seven Double Dipseas, seven 6-hour distance classics and the Pikes Peak Marathon. Father and daughter are members of San Francisco’s oldest running club, the Dolphin South End Runners. Gary was recently featured in the Nob Hill Gazette.

1973 Robert Lawson is a professional fishing and hunting guide, offering fly fishing and golf trips in Fall River, Calif.

1975 Genesis Editor Paul Totah* saw the publication of his book, The Gospel of Everyone: A Poetic Retelling of the Gospel of Luke, by Wipf and Stock Publishers.

1976 Jon Leonoudakis* has a new baseball program featured on Amazon Prime called The Sweet Spot: A Treasury of Baseball Stories. / Bill Quinlan* discussed his long career as actor and director with the Toledo Blade.

1977 Tony-Award-Winning director Bartlett Sher* will bring My Fair Lady back to Broadway.

1978 Guerra’s Quality Meats opened a new business, Guerra’s To Go, in February, to serve prepared meals. Their family includes John Guerra* and his children Joseph ’12 and Paula ’09, and Paul (Riordan ’71) and his children Maggie ’01, Katherine ’03 and Gabriella ’15. The deli and butcher shop has employed many SI grads over the past 30 years.

1985 Mike Farrah* was featured in the New York Post in a story titled “Husband needs a miracle to save him before Valentine’s Day" after accidentally throwing out $1,000 of his wife's clothing in a recycling bag. / Jeff Hanak* and his restaurant Nopa made the semifinalist list for the 2017 James Beard Award.

2004 Caroline A. Robinson was recently named associate producer of the critically acclaimed Disney XD series, Star Wars Rebels. She joined Lucasfilm one year ago after seven years in production management at DreamWorks Animation.

2005 Lt. j.g. Nicholas Brady married Jeannine Yap ’07 on Nov. 5 at the Immaculate Church of the University of San Diego. The wedding party included bridesmaids Julia Klein ’07 (Maid of Honor), Jessica Alejandrino ’07, Mike Mace (Best Man), Marcel Thompson, Zac Lee, Eric Kathrein, Joel Schow ’11, Tony Brady ’96, Matt Brady ’99 and Brandon Yap  ’17. 2007 San Francisco’s Rec and Park praised Ryan Kelly* for his volunteer work to the Dominican Republic, where he donated baseball equipment.

2008 Keelin Woodell* is appearing on the big screen in The Bye Bye Man and her brother, Colin Woodell ’10, starred in Long Day’s Journey Into Night (as Edmund Tyrone) at the Geffen Playhouse with Alfred Molina and Jane Kaczmarek. The LA Times praised Colin for his stellar performance.

 

2009 ABC 7 profiled the recovery of SFPD’s Kevin Downs* who had been shot in the line of duty. Kevin was also honored at the Triple I (Irish, Italian, Israeli) luncheon in March.

2012 Greg Davis,* representing Princeton’s U.S. Training Center, was the first American rower to finish fourth at the Crash B World Ergometer Championships in Boston in February. Greg finished with a time of 5:50.2 behind a Czech rower, a Belarus Olympian and a Cuban Olympic rower. Greg’s time was 2 seconds off his personal record of 5:48, both extraordinary times on the world level. Greg then left for the Olympic Training Center at Colorado Springs for high altitude training. He wore his SI Crew St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock unisuit during the event.

2013 The Baseball America website reported on Giants’ farm team standout Matt Krook* who is now playing for the San Jose Giants. / Kevin Sullivan* at Cal and Kevin O'Connor ’12 at St. Mary's played against each other in rugby. / Elyse Vincenzi was crowned Miss San Francisco 2017. She will represent San Francisco at various community events and fundraisers and at the Miss California competition in June. She is also an ambassador for the American Heart Association and for the Children’s Miracle Network.

2014 Quincy Mann* was praised for launching Students Seeking Change in Educating and Nurturing Diversity, a student-athlete group aimed at taking Lehigh’s athletic leadership to the next level.

2015 Sydney Raggio* was named to the All West Coast Conference team for her work with St. Mary’s basketball team.

2016 Griffin Burke* set a record in the 200 backstroke at Fairfield University.

2017 A team of five students took part in the annual SLAC regional DOE High School Science Bowl competition, coached by SI physics teacher Kristina Boyce. The students have a strong interest and proficiency in math and science and were among 30 high school teams competing from the Bay Area. Emily Isip* served as the student leader. She introduced this opportunity and recruited the rest of the team including Ayushi Tandel, Emma Schmiege, Alex Lo and Airol Ubas ’19. / Ariana Abdulmassih* was nominated for McDonald’s All-American Basketball Team. / Lacrosse player Catriona Barry* was named player of week by U.S. Lacrosse Magazine in March. / Dartmouth highlighted Mallen Bischoff* as a new volleyball recruit. / Cal-Hi Sports named Anne Crouch* to its Second-Team, All-State volleyball team. / Nick Menchero* was named to the Mercury News’ All-Bay Area football team. / Will Sweeney* signed to play football for Stanford./ Mei Tam* spoke in March at a TedX Youth Conference held at SHC on the topic of “The Invisible Minority.” / Kyle Wilkinson* advanced to the quarterfinals of the San Francisco City Golf Championship in March.

2018 Madie Augusto* threw a no-hitter for SI softball in February. / Sophia Boosalis* received five national art awards for her printmaking, drawing and illustrations from the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. Her twin brother Andrew Boosalis* was selected as a Young Arts Foundation Merit Winner in classical music (percussion) and also received a merit award from the National Young Arts Competition. / Brandon Hing* received honors after a weekend at the University of Pacific’s annual performance of Mahler at Pacific. After auditioning last fall, he was selected as one of 40 high school students from 150 applicants from all over California.

2019 Cal-Hi Sports named Jaedon Roberts* to the state football all-sophomore team.

1960Jack Fitzpatrick* was honored March 17 by the Hibernian Newman Club during its St. Patrick’s Day lunch at the St. Francis Hotel. Jack is the executive director of the Gellert Foundation.

1963 The track at Bellarmine was named for Terry Ward* (left), longtime athletic director and coach at SI’s companion Jesuit school.

1968 On May 25 at the SFSU commencement before 35,000 people at AT&T Park Peter Casey received an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts. The other recipient of an honorary doctorate that day was Johnny Mathis (which Peter admits was “pretty cool”). The creator of Frasier, Casey is a 1975 graduate of SFSU with a BA in broadcasting. / Bill McLoughlin was ordained a Permanent Deacon on May 20 at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption.

1969Dave Devencenzi* and Tommy DeNatale* (right) held the flag for the national anthem before the Giants’ home opener. / In April, the Italian Athletic Club honored former Lowell baseball coach John Donohue* with its Dante Benedetti Trophy for lifetime achievement and SI senior athletes Dominic Galetti and Lizzy Wagner with the Stephen Negoesco Trophy for soccer. Donohue also was inducted into the state Coaches Hall of Fame. / Several SI grads (right) and friends who are Knights in the Order of Malta Western Association went on their annual pilgrimage to Lourdes recently accompanying 50 malades. 1974Fr. Mark Taheny* will become the new pastor of St. Cecilia’s Parish on July 1 following the retirement of Monsignor Michael Harriman. Fr. Mark has served in several parishes, including St. Sebastian’s in Greenbrae, where he has been pastor for the last nine years. Prior to SI, he graduated from St. Brendan’s School. He is one of nine siblings and has 20 nieces and nephews and a dozen or so grandnieces and grandnephews, many of whom have been active at SI during their high school years. Two of his uncles were long-time Jesuits: Fr. Theodore Taheny, S.J. ’43, and Fr. Robert Taheny, S.J. ’44, both deceased.

1976Bill Grayson, Esq., was appointed to the board of directors of the Presidio Trust by President Donald Trump.

1977Bartlett Sher* will bring his play Oslo to the big screen. The play won for Sher an Obie Award and a Lucille Lortel Award and received the Tony Award for best play.

1978Jon Karesh was recently elected to the position of assistant presiding judge of the San Mateo County Superior Court. He is now in his 17th year as a San Mateo County Superior Court judge.

1981 Real Estate guru John Burns* was featured in the LA Times.

1985 Attorney Niall McCarthy* is representing the family of a veteran who died at the Palo Alto VA. Niall will serve on SI’s Board of Trustees beginning this July.

1986 Randolf Arguelles has been elected president of SI’s Parent Asian Club (SIPAC) for the upcoming school year. His son, Alex ’20, is a rising sophomore at SI. / John Randall (right) earned his doctoral degree in education with an emphasis in Learning Technologies from Pepperdine University in 2016. In 2017, he advanced in rank to associate professor of Instructional Design at Concordia University Irvine, where he teaches educational technology classes in the School of Education and develops online courses and is the senior director of faculty training and development.

1989 Comedian Al Madrigal* had a Showtime special in May — Shrimpin’ Ain’t Easy — followed by his featured appearance in the Showtime series I’m Dying Up Here in June. / SI grads excelled at crew at Gonzaga, including Coach Glenn Putyrae*, coach of the year of a remarkable crew that included Alexa Jadallah ’16, who helped the Zags win the WCC championship and compete at the NCAAs. She received WCC Coxswain of the Year honors, and Caroline Maguire ’16 was awarded WCC Newcomer of the Year. Georgia Davey ’15 also rows for the Zags in the Varsity 4 boat. Other alums that competed in nationals were coxswains Reilly Kearney ’14 for Notre Dame and Sydney Rodriguez ’14 for Syracuse.

1990Mario Alioto has been teaching at Hanna Boys Center for the past 19 years and has served as summer school principal at Archbishop Hanna High School for the past two summers. Life is good!

1992Elwyn Cabebe, MD, recently joined Stanford Health Care. He practices Medical Oncology and Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine. He also was appointed director of quality for cancer care throughout the Stanford Health Care networks and is adjunct clinical faculty for Stanford University School of Medicine.

1993Kelly (Simpson) King* gave a TedTalk on using the arts for social activism.

1994Lizette (Ortega) Dolan is the new vice principal for mission and community development at Carondelet High School.

1996Beth Spotswood (left) married SFPD officer and United States Army Reserves Captain Dustin Leonardo Daza in San Francisco’s Presidio. Kate Ryken ’97 served as a bridesmaid alongside Melissa Caen. Richard Spotswood ’65, who was also celebrating his 70th birthday, gave the bride away. 1997Amy Phelps was featured in a National Geographic special dealing with giraffe extinction. She is the curator of the San Francisco Children’s Zoo and Animal Resource Center at the zoo.

2000Matt Bradford* launched a new CD, available on iTunes, and followed up with a two-and-a-half-week tour in May. / Angélica Quiñónez* was named assistant head of school for mission at Mercy High School in San Francisco.

2001Ben Bradford* won another Edward R. Murrow regional award in the Hard News category for Capital Public Radio in Sacramento. He is the legislative reporter for the station. He reported on how the Initiative process works in California. He was also in the running for the national award.

2003Erin Bowler is a resident in UCSF’s Emergency Medicine Program. A University of Washington grad, she received her MD from Emory’s School of Medicine as a Woodruff Fellow. She was elected to the national academic honor medical society Alpha Omega Alpha and has participated in medical humanitarian trips to Iraq and Honduras. Kate Brandt*, who served in the Obama administration as the nation’s chief sustainability officer and who now has the same role at Google, received the Distinguished Public Service Award, the highest award the U.S. Navy can give to a civilian, for her work helping the Navy go green. Outside Magazine also named her, in honor of the magazine’s 40-year anniversary, as one of 40 women who has made the biggest impact on our world. 

2004Regina Moore* led Team Wildcats with other ’04 grads to help Advokids, a nonprofit organization that supports foster kids and families in California with the legal help they need to navigate the system. 2005Darren Criss* will appear in the film version of Speech and Debate. / Jenise Lum graduated with her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University in June. She currently lives in New York and is pursuing a postdoctoral position in clinical neuropsychology and a career in rehabilitation neuropsychology.

2006 The Noe Valley Voice featured a story on Shane Fallon* and her father, Howard, who dedicated a new mural to Shane’s late sister, Kendra Fallon ’09, who died in a plane crash in Nepal, and the girls’ mother, Julee, who died a year earlier, a victim of cancer. / Lauren Kushner graduated from the UC Irvine School of Medicine, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society. In May, she traveled to Spain to present her research at the annual meeting for the European Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases. She will begin her pediatrics residency at Stanford this June. / Vice’s Gianna Toboni* wrote about the late Jill Costello for tonic.vice.com. She also was featured in a lifehacker.com interview entitled “This is How We Work” about her work habits and devices.

2013Nico Giarratano* was drafted by the San Francisco Giants. He joins classmate Matt Krook*, who is pitching for the Giants’ San Jose farm team. Stanford’s Jackson Klein* was also drafted by the Kansas City Royals. / Henry Holscher, Danny Casey, Aine McGovern, Lauren Freise, Ciaran Murphy and Nick McSweeney gathered at their Boston College graduation. / The Chronicle featured Stanford baseball star Jack Klein*. / Kevin Sullivan* played for Cal’s national championship rugby team, which won the 2017 Varsity Cup final against Arkansas State. 

2014Carly Bell* helped Boston College’s lacrosse team advance to the NCAA championships. / Cal Poly’s John Corbolotti* was named lacrosse/MCLA Player of the Month. / Joe Lang* earned All-Ivy honors playing lacrosse for Harvard. / Max Schaum (left) was recognized with the 2017 Golden Eagle Scholar award for UCSB Water Polo presented by former National Team captain Wolf Wigo. The Golden Eagle honors the student-athlete from each program who has the highest cumulative GPA and exhibits citizenship and integrity. Schaum accepted an invitation to train in Italy this summer with Associazione Nuotatori Brescia, one of the world’s foremost professional teams. Ranked 6th nationally, the defending conference champion UCSB Gauchos men’s water polo team hopes to make a run for the 2017 NCAA Championships. 

2015 Dominic Burke* and Tarik Sinora* helped UC Davis win the D1AA Rugby Championship and advance to the national championship game in Georgia against Notre Dame. / Nicholas Byers* received a writing prize from Wesleyan. / Dylan Elder* joined the Philadelphia 76ers Innovation Lab, where he is using his computer prowess with a fantasy sports project based on an algorithm he created in an AP Statistics class at SI.

2016John Petrinovich*, a student at Reed College, was awarded a 10-week summer undergraduate research fellowship to work in the Reed College Biology Department, a grant made possible through the National Institutes of Health.

2017Bryn Evans* was named national player of the week for boys’ lacrosse following SI’s successful East Coast tour. / Michelle Moore* was chosen as a CSF Regional Seymour Finalist. / SI’s Poetry Slam team, down three members, took second place at the Battle of the Beach May 9. The slam was run by SPARC Poetry and took place at Gateway High School. The team included Erin Valoroso’18, Campbell Simmons and Aleah Jayme (along with club moderator and SI English teacher Xan Roberti). Also on the team are Drew Salibay ’18, Anthony Mark ’18 and Sierra Bourne, who were all unable to attend. The team also made it to the Unified District Poetry Slam Finals at the Oakland Museum as a wildcard pick from the semifinals. / Jeri Tan* received the Triple-Impact Scholarship award. She was one of the 10 students chosen out of 20 finalists in the Bay Area. Each finalist received $1,000, and winners received $2,000 payable to college of their choice. 

2018Tiffany Hue* was named Miss Outstanding Teen Chinatown 2017.  / Angela Yang* was honored by the National Council of Teachers of English for success in its Achievement Awards in Writing contest.

2019Kol Van Giesen and his sister, Elle Van Giesen ’20, (left) both play baseball at SI. Kol plays on the JV team, and Elle, who plays on the frosh team, is the first girl ever to play baseball at SI. / Airol Ubas* (below) received a certificate of appreciation from St. Anthony’s Foundation for outstanding performance and lasting contribution to St. Anthony’s Winter Shelter. She was presented the award by Shelter Manager Chlorisa McClain. Pictured with Airol are Rufus, Lynea and Lawrence, employees at St. Anthony’s and the main staff for the Emergency Evening Winter Shelter, where Airol volunteered nearly every day during her winter break. 1955 60 Minutes featured a story on California Gov. Jerry Brown* and his fight against climate change.

1957 John W. Wagner married Leilani H. Eells, a Punahou School and Skidmore College graduate in November 2016. They honeymooned in Leilani’s home city of Oahu. They reside happily in Brentwood.

1959 John Duggan* and his family, including son John Duggan ’92*, celebrated the 80th anniversary of Original Joe’s Restaurant.

1961 Gil Haskell* and Levy Middlebrooks ’84* will be inducted into the SF Prep Hall of Fame — Gil for coaching track and football and Levy for his skill on the basketball court.

1962 Ray Lew and his wife, Annie, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in December as well as Ray’s 74th birthday. They also celebrated their son, Alston, who was sworn into the California Bar on Dec. 7.

1963 Mike Sullivan competed for Team USA, age group 70–74, at the World Triathlon Championships in Rotterdam. He finished 9th of 31, Olympic distance, in 2:50:34. Mike and Barbara live in Pacific Grove.

1968 Former SI President Robert Walsh, S.J.*, was named the new chancellor for Loyola Marymount University after years of serving the school as the executive director for the Center for Catholic Education.

1971 Col. Brendan Kearney, USMC*, was the guest of honor at Sonoma’s Veterans’ Day ceremonies.

1972 Kevin Carroll* has a new book published: A Moment’s Pause for Gratitude. / Gerald Posner*, an expert on the JFK assassination and the author of Case Closed, was featured on various media outlets after new information was released by the White House on the 1963 killing.

1975 SI grads come out in force for the Italian Heritage Day Parade. Jim Fanucchi* served as chairman of the parade. Steve Leveroni ’69 served as president of the parade association. His son Joe Leveroni ’03 served as master of ceremonies. Grand marshals included actress Jacqueline Toboni ’10 and SFPD officer Kevin Downs ’09. Alexandra Cotroneo ’13, last year’s Queen Isabella, also was in the parade. Past leaders of the parade have included Frank Billante, John Warda and Tony Passanisi. Board members include Elisa Fanucchi ’08, Molly Leveroni ’04, John Parente ’67, Paul Tonelli ’76 and Joseph Parente ’98. Also present were Frank Howard and Rory Bertiglia.

1976 Several grads came together to celebrate the 60th birthday of Richard Bulleri, DDS, including Kenny Hagan, Martin Coyne, Bob Enright and Steve Roche (Riordan ’76) at North Beach Restaurant. / Jon Leonoudakis is the executive producer and director of The Sweet Spot: A Treasury of Baseball Stories, a new baseball documentary series streaming on Amazon, Roku, and Vimeo On Demand. Three episodes from the series were recently screened at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, and Jon is publishing his first book from the series, Baseball Pioneers, available on Amazon.

1977 Sessums Magazine featured an interview with Bartlett Sher*, resident director of the Lincoln Center Theatre.

1979 Mark Machado was elected president of the Marin Association of Realtors for 2018.

1980 Members of the Class of 1980 spent time in Munich for Oktoberfest. They included Jim McFadden, Bernie Corry, Paul Fitzpatrick, David Braun, Larry Deubler and John Barbieri, as well as Riordan grads Steve Murphy and Brendan Lalor and SHC grads Tom O’Connor, Kevin Kinahan and John Shanley. Grade schools represented included St. Philip’s, St. Gabriel’s, Holy Name, Corpus Christi, St. Cecilia’s and St. Anne’s. The group visited St. Ignatius in Munich and kept alive the tri-school camaraderie.

1981 In an interview in Fortune, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff praised SI trustee and Salesforce controller Joe Allanson* for the company’s success. / Lawrence Louie was elected president of United Pharmacists of Southern California, which represents 1,500 Kaiser pharmacists. He negotiated for the restoration of pharmacist pensions and a stronger labor contract.

1983 Navy SEAL Richard Rodriguez* was promoted to Rear Admiral in an Oct. 6 ceremony at the Pentagon. A reservist for the past 20 years, he also serves as president of Dunhill Homes in Texas. He also served as the project manager of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest building in the world. Look for more on Rear Adm. Rodriguez in an upcoming issue of Genesis magazine.

1985 Geoff Callan recently co-starred in the feature film Star Light, which will be released in the fall of 2018. He is currently producing and co-directing the inspirational documentary The Push, which features Grant Korgan, a world class adventurer and Lake Tahoe native who became paralyzed during a snowmobile accident and then became the first spinal cord injured athlete to push himself nearly 100 miles to the South Pole. The Push will be hitting the festival circuit in 2018. / Keith Harper*, the first Native American named as a U.S. Ambassador, was interviewed on the UN Dispatch website.

1987 Daly City police officer Victor Cabatic* was honored for saving a life. He responded to a call of an unresponsive subject, evaluated the scene and took quick, decisive actions to render aid to the victim. Chief Manuel Martinez, Jr., praised his awareness and unselfish actions that “clearly displayed an excellence of effort resulting in the successful resuscitation of the victim.” / Brent Deal* has a new movie on surfing in Mexico called Conversessions. Look for it on YouTube.

1988 Gino Masini has been elected chairman of the 3GPP RAN3 international telecoms standardization committee. 3GPP is a joint effort by all players in the telecoms industry, and RAN3 is responsible for 4G and 5G mobile network architecture. He is currently developing the specifications for 5G mobile networks, which will affect the lives of millions in the near future. / The White House nominated Dr. Jeff T. H. Pon* as director of the Office of Personnel Management.

1996 Time Magazine quoted Principal Allison Silvestri* on teens and smart phones and her innovative policies at San Leandro High School.

2000 Jonathan Kathrein graduated from USF School of Law in May 2017 and passed the July 2017 California Bar Exam. He was sworn in Dec. 1 as a licensed California attorney at St. Ignatius Church.

2001 In July, David A. Arnott moved back to the Bay Area after 10 years in Charlotte, NC, and in September began working for the Menlo School Development office. / Monica Jean Charlton was part of the Loyola New Orleans volleyball team that is being inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame. / Dr. Sylvia Morelli* authored a study showing the value of empathy. She serves as an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago and director of the Empathy and Social Connection Lab.

2003 After nearly a decade living on the east coast, Kevin Yeh has settled back in San Francisco with his wife, Catherine, and dog, Ellie. He is currently a senior associate at the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, and is on secondment to Uber. Kevin also serves on the board of Symphonix, the San Francisco Symphony’s league for young professionals, which supports the Symphony’s philanthropic and music education efforts.

2005 Darren Criss* hosted the third annual Elsie Fest in Central Park. He is currently starring in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story on FX.

2006 Chris Baccari wed Ashley Manchia at a beautiful ceremony on Oct. 21 at Vine Hill House in Sebastopol, joined by many friends and family members of the Bay Area and SI community.

2007 Dr. Camille Hawkins married Dr. Andrew Wilson on Sept.2 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Streamwood near Chicago. In attendance were her sister, Vanessa Hawkins ’99 (Maid of Honor), brother Clifford ’00 and classmates Christina Lauretta, Katie Woods and Yuliana Quintero.

2008 Ben Diserens* wrote a web series called Royally that was an official selection at the New York Television Festival. The show was one of only 50 pilots selected out of almost 4,000 submissions. Ben flew back east to attend the festival and saw his series win the Critics’ Choice Award and the lead actress won Best Actress in a Comedy. Ben is grateful to the many SI grads who helped fund the project.

2009 Sean Borella, grandson of Harry Charles Ewing ’33, married Megan Knudson, granddaughter of Jerry Ennis ’55 and daughter of Rob Ennis ’82, on Oct. 14 at the Carmel Mission. Groomsmen included Sean’s brothers Kevin ’01, Nick ’03, Brian ’05 and Andrew ’07 as well as Jack Diserens and Eric Quesada. Bridesmaids included Megan’s sister Maddie Ennis ’19 as well as Sofia Rizzo and Megan McGovern ’10. Other alumni in attendance included Kristina Borella ’06, cousins Marc Borella ’00 and Lauren Borella Walker ’03, and Dave Martin ’70, Brad Levesque ’77 and Liam O’Reilly.

2012 Rachel Garcia* was featured by the Academy of Art University on its Fashion School Day website for her work as a designer for SI’s fashion show. / Jack Radsliff* released a video of one of his songs in advance of his new album, Migration Patterns. Pre-order the digital download from Bandcamp.

2013 Chantal Nguyen* received the Gunther & Lee Weigel Medical School Scholarship. / Andrew Vollert* was featured by the Chronicle for his football success at Weber State. He was selected as a unanimous first-team all-conference tight end and competed in the third round of the FCS playoffs against James Madison University. He also earned second-team All-American status and was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game.

2014 Patrick Dunne, graduating in May 2018 from Wharton School of Business at UPenn with a concentration in Finance and Operations, has accepted an offer in NYC as Mergers and Acquisitions consultant with a major firm. / Zoe Wong, a senior at Haverford College, was selected to her second straight first-team All Centennial Conference as setter for women’s volleyball.

2015 SLU junior Maria Garcia* attended her third Ignatian Family Teach-In in Washington, D.C., and was featured by the school’s magazine and website.

2016 Michael Dunne is enjoying his sophomore year at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He continues to run and play golf in his free time. / Georgina Stiegeler* was featured as a soccer standout by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s athletic department on its website.

2017 Mallen Bischoff* was named Ivy League co-rookie of the week for her accomplishments on Dartmouth’s women’s volleyball team. / Over the Labor Day weekend Aodhan Downey, Patrick Connolly, Dylan Kenneally, Myles McGrillen, Kieran Manning and Ethan Hennessey competed in and won their division in the U.S. Gaelic Athletic Association tournament held on Treasure Island. Their team, Pearse Og, defeated teams from Madison, Columbus and Charlotte. They have been playing Gaelic football together for the last 10 years and hope to continue. They encourage other SI alumni to join in the fun. / Northwestern University featured Peter Lewczyk* for his swimming prowess. /Allison Tamzin Stella Schaum* published her first volume of poetry, My Life in Mixtapes.

2018 Andrew Boosalis* and Angela Yang* took home National YoungArts Foundation honors. / Nor Cal Basketball wrote about the success of varsity players Matt Redmond* and Neal Begovich ’19.

2019 Ryder Jackson* won the US Boys’ 16 National Indoor Tennis Championship in Boston. Jackson is the first person since Andre Aggasi to win both singles and doubles in this tournament. / Sarah Linhares* was invited to attend the USRowing Youth Challenge in Florida.

2020 Ed Lawrence Hagape* is the author of a recently published collection of poetry, The World According to Ed. / Eagle Scout candidate Matthew Mariani* collected 118 backpacks filled with supplies and donated them to the Veterans Office in San Carlos.

2021 Courtney Yee* was chosen to perform at Carnegie Hall with an international honors orchestra.

1966 Fr. Robert Christian, O.P.,* was named the new auxiliary bishop for San Francisco.

1971 Dr. James Corum has a chapter in a new book: 1918: Winning the War, Losing the War. The book will be used in military history courses of British Army schools. Dr. Corum’s chapter deals with the air campaign of 1918. 

1973 The Hon. Peter Siggins received the Man of the Year Award from LMU’s chapter of Alpha Delta Gamma, the Jesuit fraternity.

1974 Joe Reid retired in April after a 39-year tax career with Chevron that took him to five continents. He thanks Mr. Morlock, who made him memorize the names of the 15 republics of the Soviet Union. “I never dreamed I would conduct business in six of those republics.”

1975 David Silver*, longtime collector, historian and, for 20 years, a major dealer and broker in antique and vintage cameras, was featured in the San Francisco Chronicle, on KPIX Channel 5 and on NPR’s All Things Considered after discovering previously unknown 35mm movie footage of the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake. The 9-minute film was passed along to the Niles Essanay Silent Movie Museum, where it will remain preserved in archival storage, and was digitally copied for future generations to see.

1979 Geoffrey Blake is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel living in Fayetteville, Ark. He follows his passion by owning his own landscaping business, and in his spare time, he enjoys working out, kayaking, sports, live music and fine craft beer. He promises to attend the next reunion.

1980 Historian John Garvey was invited to participate in a Smithsonian Institution program entitled “Americans and the Nazi Threat: What Did Californians Know,” held at the San Francisco Jewish Community Center in February 2018. The panel also included JoAnn Wasserman, Education Initiatives Manager of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum; author Tom Graves; and moderator Leah Garchik, a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle.

1981 Francis Jue* stars in Soft Power, a play that will open in Los Angeles May 3 before coming to San Francisco June 20.

1982 SI Director Ted Curry* wrote about the journey of the fall play, O Beautiful, for SF Breaking Character magazine. / Mike Menaster, M.D., is taking his first photography classes at CCSF, and a month into the classes, saw the school newspaper publish his photos of the basketball team’s victory over Ohlone College. / U.S. Attorney for Northern California Brian Stretch* stepped down from the post to join Sidley Austin LLP as a partner in its white-collar, government litigation and investigations practice.

1983 Matt Larsgaard works as a private investigator along with fellow SI graduates Paul Elissiry ’85 and Chris Larsgaard ’85. The three of them work as heir hunters and have located clients all over the world.

1986 Bi-Rite founder Sam Mogannam* received the Specialty Food Association’s Leadership Award in the Citizenship category. / Richard Ponce left his current position as assistant house manager at the Manhattan Theatre Club’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, to serve as house manager of 2nd Stage’s new Broadway home, the Helen Hayes Theater (where he worked 28 years ago as a ticket taker and usher). He started at the Friedman in 2008 and spent the last 10 seasons working on 29 productions, including the Tony-Award winning revival of August Wilson’s Jitney. He also worked Off Broadway for the Lucille Lortel Theatre in Greenwich Village between 1986 and 2008, advancing from usher to house manager. Richard put himself through school and earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts and a minor in film from Brooklyn College in 1994.

1987 Business owner and entrepreneur Lloyd Princeton is running for Congress in New Mexico’s First Congressional District as a Libertarian.

1990 Mario Alioto (right) will be celebrating his 20th anniversary teaching at Archbishop Hanna High School at Hanna Boys Center in Sonoma. He has been married for 17 years and just bowled his first sanctioned 300 game.

1992 San Francisco Mayor Mark Farrell hosted his classmates on March 12 at City Hall. 1993 Matt Ferrucci won Best Director and Best TV Comedy for the show Companion at ITVFest — The Independent Television Festival — and was featured in TV Guide magazine.

1995 CCSF basketball Head Coach Justin Labagh* and Assistant Coach Adam D’Acquisto, led their team to a third state title since 2011.

1996 Tiffany Bong*, who helped create SI’s dance and drill team, was featured on the USC website for her work “raising the bar for university-level dance education.” She is a USC Kaufman Dance Lecturer at the school.

1998 Angela Leus was nominated for an award by the Guild of Music Supervisors in the “Best Music Supervision For Film: Budgeted Under $25 Million” category for her work on last year’s comedy hit Girls Trip. Angela is currently vice president of Film Music at Universal Pictures. Her current and upcoming projects include Trolls 2, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, and The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, starring Robert Downey, Jr.

2000 Josh Harris* and the Sancimino brothers — Jim ’75, Phil ’76, Steve ’68 and Tom ’72 — were semifinalists for the prestigious James Beard Awards.

2002 Agnus, a play co-written by Matt Werner*, opened off-Broadway.

2004 Joe Unruh, a firefighter in San Diego, son of Coach Rob Unruh ’64 married Leah Mardon Cook in San Diego on March 4, 2018. Co-best men were twin Corbolotti brothers, Mike and Tom ’04, neighbors of the Unruhs and sons of Bob Corbolotti ’74. Also in the wedding party was Tony Lagomarsino ’04.

2005 The Chronicle interviewed American Crime Story star Darren Criss* on his San Francisco roots. / Samantha Geno (Silvia), daughter of Ed Silvia ’74 and Alicia Donahue (current SI trustee) married Gregory Geno, son of Kevin Geno ’72 on Nov. 4, 2017, at Old Saint Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco. Georgia Silvia ’09, Amanda Garcia, Alex Loback, Hannah Brosnan and E.J. Silvia ’11 served as bridesmaids and groomsman. Also in attendance from the class of 2005 were Juliana Sanguinetti, Jill Hansel, Molly Callaghan, Francesca Flaherty and Katy Bunch (Milton). 

2007 On Dec. 16, 2017, Dennis (D.J.) Murphy, Jr. married Holly McMannes at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa. Danny Tate was best man. Also in attendance from the Class of 2007 were Alex and Cal Trembath, Drew Lawson, Scott Lensing, Andrew Hooker, Evan Yates, Michelle Arguelles, Gina Perlite and Brendan Byrne.

2010 Carly Bell was voted one of three captains for the Boston College Women’s lacrosse team. She was selected to wear the #19 jersey, which recognizes the heroic efforts of Welles Crowther, who died helping others in the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. She was nominated by Inside Lacrosse Media’s mid-season poll as Honorable Mention All American. / Will Kircher* was promoted as an agent at the Hollywood powerhouse talent agency ICM Partners. / USF and the USF Psychology Department created an alumni profile regarding Breniel Lemley’s* research, which led her to her current research position at SRI International. 

2012 Kerry Crowley joined the Bay Area News Group, which includes the San Jose Mercury News, the East Bay Times and the Marin Independent Journal, as the San Francisco Giants beat reporter. 

2013 Andrew Vollert* saw extensive playing time in the East-West All-Star Game; he also earned honors for his academic success at Weber State.

2014 Jaren Yang* was selected for a post-grad internship at MLB headquarters. He is the only one of 5,000 applicants chosen for this honor. He is double-majoring in business administration and recreation, sport and wellness at Gordon College. Jaren played basketball both for SI and Gordon College.

2015 Katie French (left), a student at Villanova, played water polo against former SI teammate Alissa Caltagirone ’16 who now attends Chapman. Villanova won that game 10-8. / Sydney Raggio* enjoyed success playing for St. Mary’s basketball team. 

2016 Anne-Cecilia Byrne is studying in Madrid after receiving a scholarship from John Carroll University to help her finish her work towards her bachelor’s degree in Spanish. She is also an office assistant to both the Language and Political Science Departments. The Poli Sci Department has asked her to translate a research/immersion project. / Georgina Stiegeler was voted Offensive Player of the Year for Cal Poly Women’s Soccer. 

2017 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s website sang the praises of Ayzhiana Basallo*, who is making a name for herself on the school’s basketball team. / At the Army Invite at West Point, USMA cadet Lauren McNevin* set a new plebe record in the 400 medley relay and earned #7 in the Army’s All-Time best list for breast stroke. / Seattle University’s Campus Ministry program named Rose Murphy its student leader of the week for her work as a Catholic Relief Services Ambassador, an RCIA sponsor for Campus Ministry and a Student Representative on the Trustee Committee for Student Government of Seattle University. Rose is also a Student Ambassador for Living the Fourth Day: Gathering for High School Retreat Alumni.

2018 This past December, Keo Chui* and one other Latin student took the National Medusa Mythology Exam. Both students opted in just to see how they would do. Keo earned a Laurea Certificate for her strong performance on this national exam. / Alex Enos* broke SI’s long-jump record by 10 inches (24 feet, 2.5 inches) and also set a meet record at the first meet of the season. / Justin Yamamura* received the Prudential Spirit of Community Award for his work founding Youth Policy Initiative, a nonprofit program at SI for middle school students.

2019 On Jan. 24, SI Spanish students participated in a one-day cultural and language exchange with students from two South American Jesuit high schools: Colegio San Javier of Tacuarembó, Uruguay, and Colegio Del Salvador of Buenos Aires, Argentina. SI students hosted the exchange students all day, bringing them to their classes and practicing their Spanish skills. SI students included David Barajas, Marcelo Villavicencio ’20, Claire Cruse, Selascie Smith, Alyssa Perotti, Nick Love, Cole Lombardi, Grace Bettis, Kaitlin Kelly, Caitriona Hegarty and Julia Kelly.

2020 Samantha Lo, Nick He ’21 and Ethan Liu ’21 were named semifinalists by the San Mateo Chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans for the group’s speech contest, and Samantha was later named contest winner. / Ruby Luu*, one of the Orchestra Concertmasters at SI, was selected to perform at the Junior Bach Festival at the Crowden Music Center March 24. She has been accepted to the prestigious Conservatory Audition Workshop in Vermont this summer to work with teachers from Curtis, Juilliard and the New England Conservatory. / SI’s Sophomore Oratorical Contest featured finalists (below, from left) Sam Magdamo (1st), Kailey Sjauwfoekloy (2nd), Felix Andam and Lorraine Lee.

2021 Emma Dinkelspiel* and Nina Ng-Lara ’20 were accepted to the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan this summer for the one-week intensive music seminar. Also, Emma, Theresa Wu ’19 and Vivian Tsang ’19 received a Superior rating at the CA Music Educators Association Solo and Ensemble Music Festival at SFSU Feb. 24, where they played a trio by Francois Devienne for flute, viola and cello. In attendance was orchestra leader Gillian Clements who has worked with the students on their piece once a week since early January. / The freshman class enjoyed the Frosh Elocution Contest. Finalists, below from left, included Erika Morris* (1st place), Edgar Silva (3rd place), Claire Galerkin (2nd place), Jacqueline Tom, Areni Panosian and Emma Dinkelspiel. / On Feb. 3, SI’s novice debate team participated in the league’s third Lincoln-Douglas tournament at CCSF. The dedicated team had a strong showing, and Chloe Lequient* won a “Debate Winning Record” trophy. This follows their second tournament, where Violet Wade ‘20 took home the same prize. 1966 Veteran SI director and English teacher Peter Devine received the Charles T. Murphy Educator of the Year Award at the May Awards Assembly.

1968 Rich Combs and his wife, Baerbel, completed the 400-mile Irish Coast-to-Coast Walk from Dublin to Kerry, sans vehicle, in May. “We were powered by Guinness,” he noted. “See our halos in the photo!”

1969 Former Lowell baseball coach John Donohue* received the Jerry Mahoney Lifetime Achievement Award from the NorCal Basketball Official Association. / Chuck Lenatti* wrote about the history of craft beer on the Bay Area Beer Bloggers website.

1971 James Corum appeared on Discovery Channel’s “Abandoned Engineering” series, serving as an on-camera historian explaining various military sites from World War I through the Cold War. / Vince Gotera recently became editor of Star*Line, the print journal of the international Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association. 1978 John Sandstrom, his wife, Anna, and their son, Ryan, live in Ventura County. John works for Shire as head of U.S. Medical Science and Outcomes. His time is spent sailing the Santa Barbara Channel and socializing with friends.

1981 Francis Jue, who was featured in the Los Angeles Times, performed in Soft Power at the Curran Theatre June 20 to July 8. He writes that he was “so happy to be performing back in San Francisco and in this wonderful new show!”

1984 Martin Kilbridge (right) has been named the next Principal/Head of School for Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women in Rochester, NY. He also recently received his doctorate in educational administration. He is most happy to be engaged to Shannon Loughlin, Ph.D. / Levy Middlebrooks* and Gil Haskell ’61 (left) were inducted into San Francisco Prep Hall of Fame in May. SFSU also honored Haskell, who graduated from the college.

1987 Peter O’Keefe works for New York Life and married Tiffany Baker of Tiburon in 2017.

1989 Al Madrigal* headlined a comedy night focused on immigrant rights.

1993 Formr San Francisco Supervisor Sean Elsbernd was named chief of staff for Mayor London Breed.

1994 Lt. Col. Jay Vallario (left) relinquished command of VMAT203 in January 2018. He and his family are moving this summer to Washington, D.C., where he will work in Congress at the Marine Corps Office of Legislative Affairs.

 

1997 Agnes Pierscieniak is a designer, artist and photographer living in Los Angeles. She received her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2006 and has worked as a creative director on branding projects around the world, most recently with Gensler. Having the opportunity to travel and attend art workshops in far-flung places, including India and Japan, Agnes was inspired to connect local community through art. Crave Workshops, launched in early 2017, aims to share her love of handmade crafts and global textiles, while bringing friends together for custom events, art workshops and creative retreats. 2000 Joanne (Tan) Watson married John Watson on Oct. 28, 2017, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in San Francisco. Bridesmaids included SI alums Monelle (Palencia) Abaya, Maria (Aguilar) Qazi and Matron of Honor Sorida (Klinhormhual) Shum. Guests also included Francis Custodio and Taryn Ching. In lieu of traditional gifts, the couple asked their guests to donate to the Fr. Sauer Academy. The happy couple live in San Diego and are expecting their first child this year. / Dante Wiley was promoted to fire inspector for the Richmond Fire Department. He was hired as a firefighter on March 30, 2012.

2002 Amelia Cutten continues to work in Guatemala, where she runs the non-profit language school, PLQE, in the Sierra Madre mountains near Quetzaltenango.

2003 Outside magazine featured Google sustainability chief Kate Brandt.

2005 Phil Donnici (left and above) married Allison Camire April 28 in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Best man was Bobby Kane — his best friend since they were 4. From left are Bobby, Steve Calcagno, Phil, Darren Criss and Alex Bardack.  / On May 20, Ellen Mezzera married Michael Lavaia at Columbia University in New York City. 2006 Maria Martin received her M.D. degree from The Ohio State University and will be pursuing a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Arizona-Phoenix.

2010 Abigail Otto (left) graduated from Loyola’s Stritch School of Medicine on May 12. She will begin her residency training in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago.

2012 Elise Go* wrote a song, “Demon,” that will be featured in Beverly Hills Ghost, a film due out later this year. / Kerry Crowley* wrote about San Francisco Giants’ farm team player Nico Giarratano ’13 for the Mercury News. / Los Angeles Pierce College’s Teddy Niemira won coach of the year honors as assistant coach for the men’s volleyball team.

2013 Weber State’s Andrew Vollert* signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals.

2014 Nathan Arnold graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy with his bachelor’s degree in Management and a commission as a second lieutenant. / Carly Bell*, who plays lacrosse at Boston College, was praised on the university’s website, which called her a member of the senior class “that has rewritten the record book” as “the winningest class in lacrosse program history.” / Sydney Bradley (right) was recently selected as one of five recipients of the Bennington College Undergraduate Writing Fellowship. This fellowship allows a select group of undergraduate writers working in poetry, fiction or literary nonfiction the opportunity to further their study of their craft with a 10-day residency at Bennington’s MFA in Writing program. / Following his graduation from Georgetown in May, Nick Ebert served as a summer intern at the United Nations organization ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean) in Santiago, Chile. Following the internship, he will pursue his master’s degree in Latin America Studies at Georgetown. / Jonathan Hernandez, Nicholas Radich and Joe Jimenez ’16 caught up at the 2018 SCIAC Post Season Baseball Tournament when the Chapman Panthers battled the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens. Earlier, Hernandez and Joseph Jimenez ’16 helped Chapman University’s baseball team win a berth to the NCAA West Regionals. / Miguel Llemos recently graduated from St. Mary’s College of California with a bachelor’s degree in communications and minor in ethnic studies. He was joined by his proud extended family to celebrate his achievement.

2016 Gonzaga women’s crew, with SI coach, rowers and coxswain, finished 18th in the national championship in Florida. The team included Caroline Maguire* and Georgia Davey and West Coast Conference Coxswain of the year (for the second straight year) Alexa Jadallah. The team is coached by  Coach of the Year Glenn Putyrae ’89, who is moving on to coach the Crimson Tide at Alabama.

2017 Spencer Collantes, a student at NYU, recently produced Grounded: The Roots of Revolution, an environmental documentary about sustainable farming practices taking place around the world that will help feed the projected 11 billion people on earth at the end of the century. He also launched an Indiegogo campaign that has raised nearly $4,000. / CDT Lauren McNevin USMA ’21 (left) participated in West Point’s Conflict and Human Security Studies teaching English to mountain tribes children in Thailand’s Nan Province near the Laos border. 

2018 Madie Augusto* was named MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week and the Chronicle’s Player of the Year for San Francisco for her pitching prowess on SI’s varsity softball team. / Kevin Reidy* made history March 17 at the Battle of the Bands at the JCC by  becoming the first winner in the history of the competition to win as a solo artist. Playing guitar, harmonica and vocals, Kevin performed his original compositions “Unfortunate Son” and “Faked a Smile,” as well as a cover of the Paul Simon song “The Only Living Boy in New York.” Kevin’s recordings can be heard on the website SoundCloud under his stage name Pope Suburban. / Angela Yang* won a writing award from the San Francisco Chronicle.

2019 Sophia Leon Guerrero*’made it into the top 10 at the FIRST Robotics Championship in Houston as a FIRST Tech Challenge Dean’s List finalist. The competition is named for Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway and the founder of the FIRST Robotics competition. She met Dean Kamen and with will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, who is a proponent of robotics competitions.

2020 Kelly McGuigan* was named the CCS sophomore of the year for softball. / Sofia Valenciano* completed her Music Teachers’ Association of California Advanced Level (11th year) Certificate of Merit evaluation in piano with honors, playing five pieces. Her performance score was 5+ on a scale of 1-5. Sofia performed in the MTAC-San Francisco Branch Honors concert in March 2018 and will be playing at the MTAC State Convention in Orange County this summer. Sofia was also chosen to play in the MTAC-San Francisco Branch Festival of Classical Dance Music at Old First Church in April 2018. She plays cello, piano and clarinet and was a member of the varsity crew.
